Job Summary
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing general cashiering duties. Exercises no supervision.
Essential Job Functions
Issues and/or collects fees for records, taxes, permits, tickets, licenses, and/or miscellaneous documents in accordance with City ordinances and State laws.
Issues customer receipts.
Operates a cash register and uses basic office equipment.
Processes vouchers and prepares cash count reports and daily deposits.
Verifies cash amounts to receipts.
Reconciles monies for daily financial records.
Responds to requests and inquiries from the public often speaking and listening to customers' needs.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
One (1) year of cashiering experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Cash handling experience.

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic mathematical principles and practices.
Knowledge of cashiering procedures.
Skill in operating a cash register, calculator and other basic office equipment.
Ability to learn verification requirements for various payment transactions.
Ability to learn record keeping procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain good public relations.
Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment.
