Overall Reviews at SGS
1.0
Worst company I have ever worked for
SGS is only focused on meeting numbers for their studies. They enroll disrespectful subjects, people who do not speak English, people who are hours late to their appointments. Many of the staff have been yelled and even cursed at by panelists and upper management does nothing about it. Clinic manager is nonexistent and is never present when needed in tough situations. The regional manager undermines staff in front of panelists and never supports the staff. You work long hours, often until 7 or 8 at night and a couple weekends a month. The pay is well below the average for a CRO. The majority of the instruments never work properly including the outdated computer systems. The PI’s treat clinic staff like children, often embarrassing us in front of panelists by speaking to us like we are imbeciles. The turnover rate is ridiculously high because they cannot keep good staff due to the low pay, long hours, and lack of support from management. I have never worked for a company that allowed it’s staff to be treated so disrespectfully and manages to place the blame on them. I would never recommend this company to anyone I know. The only reason I managed to stay for as long as I did was because of the support of my coworkers.

ConsNo breaks, low pay, long hours, nonexistent management

Decent pay, not my favorite job I have ever had
Pay was good for a beginner like myself, but the operations and corporates' decision making is solely focused on self interest and saving the reputation of the company. Everyone either left or talked about leaving during my time at SGS.
ProsPay
ConsNo work life balance, long commute is no residing in Houston, Extra stressors

Never enough people
There was always an issues with being overworked and taken advantage of due to the staffing. It was almost as if other departments were less important than others.
ProsHard to think of any at the moment... sorry.
ConsImpossible work life balance, favoritism

Very supportive and team oriented.
The company is a family self made company, and they have a great group of people that bring a lot of energy and support from upper management all the way to the top. I'd definitely recommend them for projects and to work for. If you aren't able to work for them, than you have no skills or interest in our industry and should consider a career change.
ProsUpper management support 100%

It's an okay workplace
This company is a great beginner job for someone who is fresh out of college or fairly new in the field of pharmaceuticals. I only had one year of experience. I learned a lot about the industry and gained a lot of experience. However, because of the lack of good management, the lack of employees, and the bad job culture you wouldn't want to stay there long to build your career. You'll notice that the company has a high turnover rate within a month or two of working there, also. So, basically after about a year start looking for something new.

Decent benefits
Constant management turnover and restructuring Every few years. Never able to complete tasks outside of the daily operational tasks. Any momentum on improvement initiatives get shut down by latest management team and efforts are redirected.

If your team is good you will like it
Learned a lot and a pretty good company to work for. Working at other companies will help you see how good of a company it is. It takes a long time like years to move up to a better position if at all.

Great job as an expat
I worked with SGS O&G. Great management and potential for advancement. Upstream was on the rise so new adventures every day. You definitely work for your money but if dedicated it's a great job.

Politics each and everywhere
Worst company to start off with. Managers are too money minded. They don't care about your health or problems. Politics on the floor every day. You will get frustrated if you cannot lick the boots of the manager.

Seemless fast paced learners choice. Best for the experience in days.
I found SGS as the most relevant organization for me. My skills completely matched the competence I required for this job. All the staff, team members and specially Top Management is too supportive and appreciates your ideas. You just need to be perfect in all the way.
ProsMedical insurance, outstation allowance, trainings
ConsFirefighting mode, too frequent travelling.

Very disappointed
I was persuaded to leave a great job as a principal consultant to work in the Global Renewables team. The director only had one year to improve things. In the end about 30 employees in the Renewables team got made redundant and I with the others had to start all over again. Shame on on you SGS
