Overall Reviews at Royal Mail

Great mix of people and skills
A lot of my time was spent doing data entry and filing.
I was responsible for the International bank accounts and parcels international compensation accounts processing. Both of these roles had to be completed with accuracy, efficiency and adhering to strict protocols from start to finish.
I learned a great deal during my time at Royal Mail; from the workings of a busy office, the importance of deadlines and adapting to work loads as well as improving my knowledge and people skills.
I was lucky enough to have the privilege of working with some truly wonderful people whom I keep in contact with to this day.
ProsAmazing people, busy work days and fantastic vacation
ConsHaving to leave them all when I moved

Everyones experience will be different depending on the mail centre, shift, work colleagues and manager. I worked in two different cities and they were completely different. Even from one shift to the next.

Outdoors work.
Great once you're out of the sorting office. I love walking, but pushing / pulling the trollies for 10 to 12 miles hurts my back. Shame though, would be okay otherwise.
ProsOutdoors, peace, fresh air.
ConsRain, repetitive routes, heavy trollies.

Nice environment to work but no for the corporation
The most difficult things in this company is to advance, its almost impossible to move forward within the company.
The new changes that this company is having make the situation difficult for the workers, less hours in the contract and pressure over the upper level management.
ProsEvening times, over times, benefits
Consnot advancement

Good bunch overall
● Work-life balance
finish work normally by 15.00 can be earlier though
● Pay & benefits
paid well for hours worked
● Job security and advancement
at interview told lots overtime but when working none available. If you go over it does mostly get paid
● Management
management were overall good. Even though there seemed to be lots of different managers
● Culture
keep getting moved from round to round expected to learn lots of different routes and remember them
● Overall
not what I was expecting as job being moved around every couple of weeks and then being put back on a route you had done weeks before and be fast at doing it because you were shown it. Having to prep your bags in morning is an experience to get used to

Investigations Manager |

professional work place
Whilst employed with royal mail investigations I was involved in interviewing suspects involved in crimes, including theft, burglary, deception, burglary, damage and other intrinsic offences. I was also involved in arrest procedures resulting in court cases. I was a team manager and was involved with various teams throughout the London area. I was involved in management meetings and was also a trainer in the delivering of investigation procedures and codes of practice.
The hardest part of the job was sometimes long hours, and the most enjoyable side of the role was the conclusion of an investigation resulting in a conviction.

I was dealing with incoming calls regarding complaints, lost parcels and compensation. I also dealt with delivery office managers, by email and I also dealt with Belfast in order to search for lost items. I had a deadline to meet in order to resolve relevant situations.

The best employer in Chesterfield
I started working at Royal Mail some 23+ years ago as a Temp. I gained lots of good knowledge and friends. We eventually got outsourced to Xansa / Sopra some 13 years ago. But still remained on the Royal Mail account supporting developments with SAP and back office support.
