Unprofessional management. You are simply a tool. Nothing else. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
One of the glaring things wrong with working for this company is the absolute lack of training of new hires. For Rooms To Go (RTG), being reprimanded for not doing the job correctly IS your training. Expect it a habit to be chastised for not getting things done, yet you constantly have to go through an Ark of the Covenant ritual to get tools you need, of which tools are poor in quality anyways. You are subsequently viewed as lazy because of the mental gymnastics impeding your work flow. I am in no way opposed to hard work. In fact, I find fulfillment in hard work that is appreciated and isn't taken advantage of. I would go into my shift and immediately report to management for any assignments. From there, I would work my heart out; everyday my shirt was completely drenched in sweat so much so that I didn't want to walk through the showroom. Yes, management took notice internally of my hard work, but they figured that they could take advantage of that to try to juice more out of me. In one scenario, I worked so hard to try to keep up to management's standards that my head started hurting, I became disoriented, my body stopped sweating, my body temperature became overheated, and I ran to the bathroom to relieve nausea. I even told management about this, informing them that I suffered from 3 cases of heat stroke in my lifetime. Management's response was that they had worked harder than me a few months prior, clearly in an effort to dismiss my symptoms and to get me to worker

Can be a toxic atmosphere depending on your coworkers & manager.
Mandatory overtime on all holiday and sales weekend. Multiple 12 hr shifts required during those times. It's easy to get burned out and lose productivity at the end of the 4 day sale. Losing productivity means losing money that you would normally be earning. The positive is that they usually give you the option of taking a swap day off later in that week. However, being on straight commission, taking that extra day off often means losing a return customer who you've spent time with, to another sales associate and they don't allow split sales there. You are allowed to come in on your day off for an appointment with a customer, however, to get that sale. As a company, they view salespeople as replaceable. They feel that there is always someone who will come along to fill an open position and so they don't have much interest in meeting the needs of the sales staff. They will listen attentively to our opinions and suggestions during a sales meeting, but after a while, you realize that they are mostly playing lip service. There were so many small changes that they could make to allow our jobs to be easier and more efficient and enable us to help more customers so that they, the company, and we the salespeople, could make more money. Time is money in this job and spinning wheels on things that could be fixed is loss of income for everyone. Instead of taking our advice and making some modifications, they would take the advice of managers, some of whom have never be

Similar to life in the military
My personal experience with Rooms To Go was undoubtedly a unique one. In the beginning, the training was easy. Most information provided in training was applicable. Building customer relations was understood as something salespeople had to do. Working one-on-one and more often with families was typical in furniture shopping. Beginning with greeting and qualifying, the salesperson has about fourteen different steps in the entire process of the sale. Hesitation or omitting of vital information can turn a customer against you or decide to "shop around" and leave. Management played a key role in the store. Specifically, when a salesperson sensed rejection of a particular product or service that was offered/pushed, management was sought to give the customer a different perspective to buy the said service. Rooms To Go pays good benefits to their sales force. Benefits are paid in lieu of selling add-ons and product replacement programs. Mattress pads, ottomans, floor lamps, and rugs are just some of what salespeople are required to sell in order to avoid termination. Monthly reviews by management ensure salespeople stay on track of projected goals. Written sales volume is the most critical of all salespeople. A consistent low written sales volume will eventually lead to termination of said employee. It is not enough that a salesperson tries his or her best to survive against a 20-person sales staff and being expected to write 1.2 million per year, to me, was absur

Good sales job poor general management
I can’t recommend this company. I worked at two stores over a couple of years. I worked in an area that had opportunity to observe interactions. The general manager at both stores was poorly trained, could not have exhibited performance or ability in required areas as they were unable to do that on a daily basis. Neither has the ability to communicate with a diverse work team. The Regional Manager does nothing about hearing competent employees be thrown under the bus to keep them from being promoted. He does not ask questions or interview the employee for the truth just goes with the story and ends up being abusive to the employee that was told to fix the GM’s last issue. He will go out on the sales floor and look for something to blame on the employee. There are 3 stores in the area. There were NO female general managers when I left. The two GMs I worked with are still there. They are consistently disrespectful to mature experienced workers, try to make them look incompetent, made fun of them with younger employees or accused them of overstepping when talking to upper management. The worst part was watching them play employees against each other. The employee with best complaint against another employee was told they would be rewarded. It turned into the worst performers against the best ones because the best ones wouldn’t play the game. Promotions are not performance based. The more skilled and experienced workers are often passed over in favor of

Crazy competition, low pay, unpredictable hours - It’s just not worth it!
I actually worked as a Retail Office Assistant at 2 locations - first in Plano, TX, then in The Colony, TX, and boy, what a difference it made! My days normally consisted of printing out and inspecting paperwork throughout the day, stocking the sales floor terminals, wiping down the office, giving and receiving tablets from sales associates, checking financing accounts of customers and calling the necessary company if something didn’t add up, and answering phones calls as well as attending to customers who walked in, be it to make any payments or answer any questions they had at the time. I moved to the latter location to be closer to where I lived at the time and to try something new and challenging. Although both locations have really put my skills to the test and helped me grow a tougher skin against rude customers, I still considered it to be one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made with Rooms to Go. The entitlement from customers and even some sales associates just left a bad taste in my mouth. It was also annoying that the managers expected us to screen calls and walk-ins from customers who wanted to speak to a manager as much as possible before even letting them speak to one (though it was sometimes necessary since there were some things with which we as office assistants could help the customers). Really, the only good things about Rooms to Go are the benefits offered, the occassional free lunches provided by managers, vendors, or even some sales associates, t
ProsDecent coworkers for the most part, occassional free lunches, hour long lunch if possible, decent benefits
ConsWay too stressful for its own good, extremely rude and entitled customers, sometimes disrespectful sales associates, no work-life balance, low pay

Rooms To Go: Don't work there
I was with Rooms to Go for ten months and I have to say it was the worst job I've ever had. I was in Sales, you get treated like absolute garbage by this company, you get your commission taken at the slightest customer problem, even if it isn't your fault. You have no life, when you work here and I mean NO life, you will work every weekend, every holiday (except Christmas day) and almost every day of the week, 8-12 hours every day. The management of the store is the worst part about this place, you are forced to meet store quotas, even if the month is painfully slow and no one comes in the store all day, if you don't you get yelled at, if it continues you get fired (I thankfully didn't), if you're having a bad month, the managers will make you feel like you're about to get fired and will constantly be on your back, harassing you, until you fix it, working here make you feel completely unimportant and unvalued. Nothing you do matters and if anything bad happens at all, whether the store's down for the month or if sales numbers are down in general from the day before, it's your fault and the whole staff gets lectured for 45 minutes for something that 99 times out of 100 isn't anyone's fault. The monthly sales they have are also awful and borderline illegal, they have "coupons" in the flyers they send out, they say things like "Get a whole bedroom set for $420.00" and they make it look like it's for any bedroom set in the store but, it's only for the lowest quality set i

It was a great place to work I miss all my managers, supervisors and coworkers...my job moved to Dunn N.C. and I couldn't move due to family matters.
I really enjoyed my job I was a Quality Inspector, which I would inspect all different types of furniture to make sure that It meets all qualifications before they were shipped out to customers all over the world. I love my job it consisted a lot of walking and skills with the computers, paperwork and etc...but my job I miss working with all my coworkers that I had got use to working with on a daily basis ...I really didn't have any hard work there but the only that I could really think of is when I was sent to assembly where we assemble chairs, tables, benches and etc...that's about the hardest I could think of lifting the heavy stuff placing them on tables...I really enjoyed just coming to work on a daily basis with a smile on my face that really brighten everyone face up at my job..they all loved to see me come in to work because no matter how or what I was going threw no one would never know because I wore my mask of nothing but love for everyone even the ones that I knew that didn't even really care for me...but I love everyone in this whole entire world...because that's exactly what kind of heart I do have...the most part of my job that I really enjoyed was coming to work and when they asked me to work over time I didn't waste a minute a second or nothing I was like yes I can work over...that's just me I love to work. My managers were good but they all had there own personal issues and sometimes would bring to work that I overlooked on a daily basis and still continued

Nice People, Disorganized
I don't have much positive to say about this company. The main hangups are lack of communication, organization, project management, documentation, and work/life balance. The company is not small anymore but wants to act like one. You may get a direct call from the President or CIO for a project, skipping the chain of command. I have never seen any requirements gathering on any project, rarely had a meeting to discuss the project, leading it being to rushed. All parties are not involved on the project leading it to being abandoned for another priority. It's one step forward two steps back. The disorganization, is too many projects labeled as priority and no communication to the engineers doing the work. Projects appear to pop out of nowhere and being the worker you are the last to know. Your manager has no idea what you're working on, they pass on emails with no direction. There are too many project owners that have full admin access to the systems, these people are not engineers either. These owners will make a change, break it, and blame the engineering team yet with no knowledge of how their system works. The attitude is then to keep a hands off approach. As a salary employee you only receive 10 days of vacation a year for the first 10 years of service, then another 5 days at 10 years of service, 6 Holidays a year. Salary is also no competitive. Everyone is on call, no schedule. You will get called while on vacation. Working in I.T. you have to expect a degree of OT, b
ProsLaid back atmosphere, I.T. is very dress casual, sneakers and jeans are allowed, Good Learning environment for new technologies since the company relies heavily on vendors.

Professional, Great company
The office is always busy, which is good because your not just sitting there. If it is not busy you clean the terminals and make sure every terminal has financing pamphlets. Sales associates come up to the windows needing I.D verification, running credit apps with Synchrony and Tidewater, asking those companies for credit line increase. Taking payments at the cash box and dropping all money in the safe. Once money has reached a certain amount you make a bag for the manager to take to the bank before the day ends. You deal with face to face problems and over the phone. I've learned how to deal with customers who have an issue with their furniture and what to do about it. Customers who come in store and over the phone get directed to the Customer service number which will assist them with any damages or complaints. Always write your notes when speaking with customers to prevent confusion. Management is very busy with Sales associate and problem solving with customers in store and over the phone. They are very good and help you with anything you need when they have time. Since you work full time depending the hours of your work schedule you are there all the time, you grow relationships with coworkers, sales team, management and bosses. For me, everyone was like family you help one another out, very respectful and can be a fun work place. There is all cultures which makes it so fun, interesting and can be a learning experience. As like any job it is very fast paced

This is the most unprofessional Job
Rooms to go is not a company you want to work for if you are looking for a hands on experience. This company doesn’t not care for their employees. If you want a company that will appreciate the hard work you do . This is not the job for you, at all. They will press the issue of how much they value their employees, but in actuality or per say reality that is very much so not the case. Rooms to go DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR WELL BEING as their employee or even as an individual. If you’re getting in the way of them making money , they will remove you. If you disagree with their ridiculous policies or even stand up for yourself, they will remove you from their company. Rooms to go policies and procedures don’t get followed by the higher management teams, they break their own guidelines just to prove to you who has the power. This company is build of entitlement, poor management skills, and poor training. Within the time for working with this company I have been harassed, lied on, bullied, and also belittled. Management and the District “manager “ for this company does a very poor job of keeping all showrooms afloat . Office staff are completely rude to customers and to other in employees in front of customers. Sales people are very entitled and pushy. Which is understandable (not justifiable) because sales representatives do work for commissions(which they don’t get paid enough of , rtg has a way of making sure the actual company gets more profit than the actual employees) If yo

Questions And Answers about Rooms To Go

What is the work environment and culture like at Rooms To Go?
Asked Jul 1, 2016
RTG has the worst company culture I’ve ever seen in a company with respect to its drivers. They force the drivers to carry $10 million in coverage. That’s $180 a week in insurance taken out of your check. Your deductible is $2500. They take $100 a week for a bond until it reaches $2k for shuttle drivers and $4k for home delivery drivers. For shuttle drivers they pay $1.25 per mile but nothing for unloading the trailers. They only pay $.06 cents per mile fuel surcharge and eliminate it when fuel cost drop. They will push all drivers constantly to work over there DOT hours. There is no accountability accept towards the drivers. The trucks are ancient high mileage trucks, if you decided to lease. The trucks have been leased over and over. There are no benefits. RTG aka Southeast Independent Delivery Service Inc doesn’t care about the drivers. You are all expendable. Highest turnover I’ve seen in any job I’ve ever held. Avoid at all cost.
