Work-Life Balance Flexibility
Working with Rev, I can pick and choose which types of files to transcribe and/or caption. Feedback is given pretty quickly, and pay is always on time. I love the flexibility of working with Rev, and would recommend it to others. The hardest part of the job is listening to different dialects.

Not what it seems
Sounds like a great idea-transcribing at home, work when you want, no commute or dress code. But it's competitive and the good work is snatched up quickly, leaving the poor quality audios for those who aren't available to work all the time.

Great Work-at-home Experience
Transcription is not for everybody, but anybody can do it and earn some decent pay if you learn some tips and tricks. The forum is a great place on Rev, with many helpful suggestions.

Company does not respect or value independent contractors
When I first started at Rev in 2013, they were a good company to work for. As the years passed, they made many changes to compensation and evaluation, none in favor of the transcriptionists. I no longer work for them.

if you type fast and have a big vocabulary you can make a bit of extra money but not a living wage.
Loads of fun projects to work on and a pleasant, collaborative network of independent contractors. I really enjoy working at Rev.com, but my typing speed is only average and I can only earn about $5 an hour. That is nowhere near enough to live on, but it is a nice little bit of extra money for groceries or entertainment.

Great Online Opportunity!
A typical day at work included logging into the Closed-Captioning software, getting assignments and completing them in a timely fashion. I learned that Closed-Captioning is not for everyone and is an art as most people do not have the best spelling or punctuation. The management of this company is very fair.

impersonal
There is no personal contact with the company or any individuals in the company. If they close your account because you drop below acceptable metrics, there is no appeal process. if you miss a deadline, your project is taken away, no matter how much work you've done on it and you get no credit for it.

Something to use in an emergency to get by, nothing to do full time.
Pay is horribly low, especially for the easy jobs. And the ones they call "difficult" and therefore offer more pay for (still nowhere near what they should) are not difficult but nearly impossible- bad audio, horribly thick accents, people talking all over each other.
I used to use them to get myself out of jams- to help pay an unexpected bill etc. but it's not even worth that now that they've lowered the pay further for the jobs that are doable.
Not worth the effort.

Good way to earn extra money and experience
It’s freelance work. You work on your own time - but there are deadlines so you still end up often having to ignore your family. There were times I had to pick up my kid late from school or lose pay because I couldn’t turn in a file on time (because I had to pick up my kid). If you can manage your time well and type really fast then you might make decent money but it also depends on what’s available. Some days there’s nothing, but other days there’s a goldmine. So it’s a feast or famine situation. That said, I rather enjoyed it while I worked there. I got to occasionally caption TV shows and movies (such as Hook, for example). There’s a chat feature where you can ask others to help you out if you’re stuck or confused, or if you just want to hang out and chat for fun. Apparently I still have an account to work there because I recently got an email saying they missed me or something like that. I just need to make more money than it pays, though. I may go back someday. I say try it out if you are looking for flexible work and like to type.
ProsRemote, Can be fun, the chat feature with other captioners is awesome
ConsFeast or famine, pay not very good at times, sometimes long dry periods waiting for files to work on

Flexibility,
I most value the flexibility that comes with being a freelance agent with Rev. If I want to work on a job at 3:00 in the morning, it's possible. It's perfect for wordsmiths with strong English-language skills. For those with high metrics and experience under their belt, there are other opportunities to take on additional duties such as a grader or a Rev Expert.
Rev has traditionally prioritized customer satisfaction, which makes sense, happy customers means more businesses. In addition to customer satisfation, Rev is also focused on Revver satisfaction. Recently, the company has also focused on quality-of-life improvement for its agents as well. Rev has always been improving available tools for agents, and now there's a concerted effort to improve overall communications with its worldwide network of agents.
When Rev has customer service openings, it announces the openings to the Revver community, so there are opportunities to branch out in other departments as well.
Overall, Rev is an overall great place to work if you're someone who values working from home, flexibility, and learning new things.
ProsFlexibility, interesting topics, emphasis on quality
ConsEbb & flow of job availability. Slower on the weekends and around U.S. holidays.

Exploitative workplace.
They take on very low quality audio and pay very little whilst expecting high standards. One customer complaint can cause you to lose your position and you cannot dispute this. At best you can make well below minimum wage in most western countries.
ProsRemote
ConsLow pay. Low quality recordings.

Loved being able to control my own schedule.
The best of this position is the ability to work at home and have total control of my hours.
Often the files were very interesting and I was fortunate to learn about topics I would not normally be exposed to.
There really was no interaction with anyone especially management.
I bet at least 40% of the files were so horrible it easily took at least twice as long to finish the project.
The pay is ABYSMAL. There is a range of pay depending on the complexity of the project. The highest rate of pay is still far from appropriate.
ProsControl my own schedule.
ConsPay.
