working at a market
Working at a market you learn a lot about customers and customer service. Customer service is easy when you love people and love to help people. However, if you don't love people customer service isn't for you. For me I loved meeting new people every day and helping them.

Zero if I could not a secure job I can tell you so much more.
I retired from Ralph's Market. I will tell you until I made full.time I always struggled financially. They cut your part time hours and they are different every week. Now the dangerous thing about this job is the management. If they don't like you they will have you.in a mess with the company. I have been lied on and it was up held by this Como until I would win the fight filing a complaint with my union and them fighting to keep my job

No
No , I would not work there or tell a friend to work there. It has to many management issues. The promotions are slow and the culture is all about who is in the click.
Prospay okay
Consmanagement, good old boys club

Busy place to work
The people at Ralphs are very friendly. You need to work independently. There is not discrimination. People work in different departments, therefore the job environment changes.

Cant say much
Not much to say. First real job so it seemed like alot. Had to quit to try to keep up in school. If your hired you'll be shown around a store and told how it works. You'll need to really memorize the layout of the store and be able to find something to occupy yourself.
Pros50% off groceries
ConsDays seemed long at the time.

I loved interacting with our customers for the most part.
The best part of the job was the daily interaction with the grocery store customers. Opportunity for advancement, however horrible front desk supervisors and even more horrible Field Managers. Jealousy among employees, even though most employees were helpful. This was probably the most fun job that I have ever held, with the exception of the extremely poor hourly pay rate and less than part time hours. Union fees did get a big chunk of my earnings, so I brought home practically nothing in wages. Union did not always guarantee the hours given to work.
ProsFun talking to most customers, helping them, etc.
ConsManagement, disorganization, belittling of employees in front of customers.

A good job for teenagers and students
Ralphs has served me well the 9 years I've worked there, but many of their strategies are outdated. Management is hired from within, but a lot of talent gets filtered out by smart workers who are too bored or frustrated with Ralphs' aging systems.
ProsGreat benefits, Work/Life balance
ConsTerrible management

Questions And Answers about Ralphs

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Ralphs? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Jul 3, 2016
From my experience, I knew someone personally that I was able to put down as a reference on my application. I think that sped up my process. A couple days later I received a phone call for a basic screening. Maybe a day or two later I called the store to get an update on my status. Went in for an interview, got hired and proceeded to fill out paperwork and go through a boring orientation.
Answered Oct 11, 2020
It honestly completely depends on the manager and how bad they need to fill a spot. Some people could be in less than 3 days others weeks.
Answered Aug 22, 2019
How are the working hours at Ralphs?
Asked Jul 1, 2016
It really depends how well the overall store does and how badly managers need you to stay overtime. Typically 24-32 hours a week.
Answered Oct 11, 2020
Completely depends on management, but from my experience after 6 years working there. NOT flexible at all. They will literally schedule you all over the place. No kidding, one of the largest complaints from workers. ex: 3 to midnight and possibly come back at 6 am the next day. OT for 4 hours if they do but still. The scheduling is insane there. If you want a set schedule it will not happen unless you're in school, but even then they mess up.
Answered Aug 22, 2019
On average, how many hours do you work a day at Ralphs?
Asked Jan 18, 2018
I mostly worked in the bakery department, and I ended up working between 4-7 hours a day. Every day was different. Every day they changed my schedule around. Very annoying.
Answered Oct 11, 2020
Depends on what job you have there. Departments you'll almost never work less than 6 hours. But if you are a bagger, then yeah 4 to 8 normally.
Answered Aug 22, 2019
What questions did they ask during your interview at Ralphs?
Asked Jun 18, 2016
They asked me why they should hire me. Also they asked me what would I do if I ever come across an angry Costumer.
Answered Sep 20, 2018
They never ask availability then make it an issue when you tell them after you accept the job
Answered Aug 29, 2017
How would you describe the pace of work at Ralphs?
Asked Jun 14, 2017
It's insane during the holidays. Absolutely crazy. But in a typical week, Mon-Thurs are ok. Fri-Sun can get stressful especially if you work in a department.
Answered Oct 11, 2020
75% of the time it is insane, but it depends on location too.
