Little upstream information flow, poor management, difficult advancement for competent employees
If you are a hard worker you will be blamed for everything that goes wrong. Nothing will be good enough, even when you outperform everyone around you. Lazy workers who know how to parrot their General manager will excel despite not actually being able to pull their own weight on shift. The upper management micromanages so much it is incredible. When your superiors completely "mess you over" there is no remorse or action taken to rectify it. And they mess up often because they are typically the worst of their respective stores from their days as normal crew. If you have a good shift manager, you will notice that is the one hated in the GM's eyes. Their shift will run better times, serve better food, and save on labor but they will be trapped eternally as a shift manager and idiots will move up around them. I have witnessed countless employees who were good at their work be mistreated, neglected, and passed up for more incompetent peers. The inevitably leave, or (if they speak out too much) are fired through the unreasonably strict attendance system, which is not followed ever, unless the person in question is disliked and the manager wants them out. Now, occasionally everything will fall into place at a canes. there will be a ton a great hires. everyone will be happy. Service averages will be good. But this never lasts. It is coincidental. They will promote the people not responsible for it and the GM will get the praise the crew deserves. Eventually, the good peop

High school student chain gang
I worked here when I was in high school. They seem to prefer hiring high school and college students, probably because they are eager to please and too innocent to realize when they are being taken advantage of. And believe me, Cane's does nothing but take advantage of its employees. They would regularly keep me until 10 or 11 pm on school nights, and due to my store being understaffed because everyone kept quitting, I would often get off an hour or more late. My grades in school started to drop severely and I would sometimes fall asleep in class so I had to quit. They will try to schedule you for 7 or 8 hour shifts every day so if you're in high school, you basically go straight from school to work and then to bed. They somehow found out what days my school was cancelled or on holiday and they scheduled me for those days without even asking me first. The managers are all 30+ years old but they don't care about their young employees' plight at all. In fact, when I tried to ask my manager to give me shorter hours and not make me stay so late, she got angry and tried to guilt-trip me. They will also pay attention to who you are friends with and try to separate you from working with those people, because they don't want you to be distracted or inefficient whatsoever. Now that I have become a manager at my new job, I can see how totally wrong and inappropriate their behavior was and as I am in charge of a few high school students, I would never try to over-burden them with wor

The workday was pretty routine as a cashier working in the lobby. You'd take people's orders, serve them their food, clean up after people, and make sure people were happy. The management was fun and enjoyable, but didn't lack in keeping things managed overall. It wasn't the best management in my opinion due to how they scheduled you and how they picked and chose how lenient they'd be towards different people. I did enjoy the friendly manor the managers had towards me. However, they weren't very lenient in scheduling you and being aware of your presence outside of the restaurant. I overall enjoyed the people I worked with. They were very friendly and most of them were even funny and made you laugh throughout the day. But due to the stress of the lack of very effective management, it added strain to my co-workers and myself. The management allowed drama to mix in the work, and that made people stressed at the job. Also, they very rarely gave anyone a raise. It was also rare that they'd allow you to work in a different position, so the job got very repetitive very fast. Doing the same tedious thing over and over again got stagnant and lost its luster fast. The best part was the people I worked with, while the worst part was the management and the ridiculous scheduling. If you can handle no sleep and an inconsistent scheduling at minimal wage, then this job is for you. But if you like your basic needs being met, better pay, a consistent work schedule, your life outside of a job,

A good entry level job
Raising Cane's is a pretty good place to work at for a few months, though I don't see myself continuing to work there for any more than a year unless I have to. I am a closer at the Canes I work at, the two days that I work every week are the days we close the latest. Friday and Saturday at 1:30am. Normally I don't have an issue with working late, I did it at my first job and I usually stay up late on my own. The issue is closers don't usually get out until around 3am, which starts to affect other parts of life after a while. Between the four or five closers, not including the manager on duty, we have to make sure we have enough preps finished for the morning crew when we open at 9am, that every dish has been cleaned, all of the floors are swept, trashes taken out, counters/drink machines cleaned, all items stocked well enough all without hitting overtime at 8 hours. Due to the fact that Friday and Saturdays are our most busy days of the week, one would think that the most crewmembers are scheduled for those two days. This isn't really the case, we usually lack one or two workers that could make the night go by easier by staying on preps for their entire shift so that the closing crew are able to focus on cleaning and stocking so the morning crew has enough preps to get through the lunch rush. It can be done with even the most minimal worker numbers, however it will be a difficult and stressful process on the closers since we are expected to finish before hitting overtime. Al

If you can handle being consistently degraded, you’ll love it.
My time with Canes was easily one of the worst periods in my life. During my time there, I was constantly degraded by management and other employees, despite being one of their best. They hated the fact that I saw through shallow attempts to “create culture”, such as indoctrinating employees with mission and vision statements. They also hated the fact that I figured out my own ways of solving problems instead of bowing down to my managers when every little thing went wrong. Something they made very clear from the beginning is that anything below a shift manager is not really a valued employee. The crew members are really just there as tools for the managers to “run the perfect shift”. As such, you are largely treated like a number. But at this location, the GM will do you the pleasure of pretending that he wants to help you when things go wrong in your life, but when something actually happens, say, getting a call that your mother was in a car accident, he’ll tell you that you abandoned your crew, get back to work, and to top it off, confiscate your cell phone like you’re 10 years old. Breaks are reserved exclusively for when management goes over their allotted quota of labor hours, after that point and only after that point are breaks ever allowed. Otherwise, you’ll be told to suck it up and keep working. Meals being half off is really a scam. Most of my time working there, I prepped the entire meal myself (off the clock usually) and was still forced to pay for it. I

Company is all about culture, but confused about what that means
I was hired on as Operations Manager and soon after my training was completed, the GM at my store quit. I was expected to take on his responsibilities with little guidance and assert myself over the other managers with no backing from the restaurant support office (home office). It became a “whoever tattles first is supported” environment with no trust and a “get out of our hair” feeling. I feel that results should be the deciding factor in trust, but I was never trusted or supported even though I was told I ran A+ shifts by the Area Director. The culture of Cane’s is pushed heavily because of the idiosyncratic nature of the original corporation that led to its appeal and success, but what this really means is that it’s been transformed from a chicken restaurant that wants to have fun with and care about its employees, into a competitive “who will stay later after the shift” and “who is the most outspoken” about the environment with cult overtones. I’m a “work hard and achieve goals” kinda person and I manage the margins of profit, labor, and window times, but I’m not a tattletale or a cultist. So I wasn’t successful I this environment. I think that subconsciously, upper management in Cane’s SHV franchise knows that they need help and that’s why they’re trying desperately to hire from outside, but if they won’t listen or support the new talent, they’re doomed to grow too fast and crumble from within until they learn the hard lessons themselves. The profit margins are so h

Great place to work: mostly
Overall a good place to work. I love canes, so the first one that opened in my area I got a job at. I love my coworkers, and I get paid a lot, especially for being in high school and college, plus crew members get profit share every 3 months. I trained at a different store before the store i work at opened, so I have been there the longest out of everyone, except for 2 others that also did that. It was a very fun job for a long time, but when new managers came, and new stores opened around us, management suffered. My location is one of the busiest in the company, and many many people I train end up quitting after a week (Note: it is a hard job, but it gets so so much easier after the first week). Many of the managers get angry easily because they want our store to be perfect. I started at a decent pay, and got raises and promotions to being a Certified Trainer, and overall think it is a good representation of my value to the company, HOWEVER, it infuriates me that I will train brand new people, and I hear them say they are starting at the same or a higher pay than I am making currently, even after me being there for a year and a half. Many of which end up quitting, or not reaching their full potential. I have been trained in every position in the store, pretrained at another location for my stores grand opening, worked there for a year and a half, and taken my class to become a certified Trainer, and yet some newbie is getting paid 25% more than I started at, and still someti

An interesting environment with stress induced fun
I would pull into the parking lot, not hating life, but not as enthusiastic as I should be. I walk in, receive several hello's and how are you's. My co-workers smile, as they should, to customers who enter. Then 11 a.m rolls around. "HIGH SCHOOL IS HERE!!" the most common words heard in that place. And it comes as a warning. Not only is the closest high school less than a mile away, but it's also normal lunch time for the career driven people. In my opinion, keeping a positive attitude and staying focused will ensure that the day will not go sour. However, that's is a different story for the manager. Not only do they yell, more often than not profanity is shouted like a drunk fan at a football game. Let's just say our manager is no Peyton Manning. Every crew member feels his rage and tries to stay on task. Not always that easy, let me tell you. However, it all makes sense. If we don't do our jobs, the manager isn't doing his job. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, and if the highlight of your life is being a general manager at a fast up and coming chain, them that deserves respect. That was one of the many life lessons I learned during my fried chicken fingers adventure. Little things matter. And that makes the job more enjoyable! Plus, the customers were what kept us going, and they are the best part. Not only is the food super mouth watering, it takes fast dining to a new level. Never once did I see a frown or unsatisfactory on the faces of anyone there. It was s

discrimination all over the place
I had nothing but trouble from the day i went into interview, it took them 3 weeks to give me my first shift and gave me one day, I am an older woman but had experience from opening one in another state, the one manager didn't like my age, he would not even look me in eye. It's true what they all say to many chiefs in one building and the trainers want to run the place and they get away with it, if they don't like you don't waste your time staying, i watched younger kids come in and start work the same day, I went to this place because I actually loved opening the store I did everyone was so great and of course like the food, found out big difference between a franchise and corp. was treated poorly from a majority of workers but had some real nice ones too, the job is a simple and easy and customers are most of the time great, a lot of cleaning because don't get caught standing around for one min. they have such a turnover I watched 2-3 interviews in a day, so if you are not liked or don't obey the trainers they will make your life miserable. I have never in my many years of working been treated so poorly and made so miserable during what my 3 hours of working in a day there is so much inconsistency in what you are told how to do things, oh and don't bother calling the hot line #, yes I did because there is not enough room on here to put, I was being discriminated against and it comes down to they did change managers around but when it came down to it, told they couldn't find

Great first job/learning experience!
Raising Cane's was my first job, I applied when I was 16 and I am nearing my two year anniversary. I've learned a lot from my job!! Working at a restaurant like Cane's has been an essential experience to me: learning how the service industry works, how to move up the ladder at a company, how to work efficiently and resolve conflicts, the list goes on. I've also met so many great people and made real, lasting friendships while there. Almost every day I go in, I walk out feeling better than I did before due to the fun, caring relationships I have with my coworkers! The only issue I really have with the way the company runs is that the strict drive thru times (I believe the goal is under 2:30; my restaurant doesn't have a hole so this is often kind of difficult to achieve, especially when working with new crew or minors which make up nearly half the staff usually) can frustrate you very easily, especially when SM's are basically threatened to upkeep those perfect times, leaving them hounding crewmembers or kicking crewmembers off positions to fill in the spot themselves to drop the times. This is at least how I felt at my restaurant, and it leaves the crewmembers/managers in such a position of stress when they're often doing their best but fail to match the drive thru time standards due to pretty minor issues like waiting on fresh food, customers taking too long to pay, etc. If you want a fast food job, I definitely recommend Cane's! Just know succeeding there means working h

Good benefits, lack of accountability to crew
During my time with raising canes I learned a lot of leadership skills. A typical day of work consisted of setting up each shift with communicating expectations to crew on where we stood with our average speed of service for the week, our survey results from customers and what areas we struggled in and how we need to align our focus in order to fix any issues that customers are seeing. The workplace culture was fun, fast pace with music and lots of communication. The hardest part of the job is that 80% of the crew members are between the ages of 16-18 years old and go to the same high school together. This lead to a lot of drama and insubordination. In my position as shift manager I would be put in charge of managing them and running an extremely tight shift. For example we needed to manage how much food we are wasting, but we also need to manage our speed of service. In order to do so our crew needed to communicate at a very high level to keep food coming up to our customer flow so we don't over do it and have too much food up, but also so we don't under do it and hold on food, which would in turn hurt our speed of service. Communicating how to manage this to young teenagers that had no intention of making this their career, but rather a part time job while they finish high-school was not ideal. Then when crew would consistently not listen, or follow direction I would communicate it to my operations manager and higher ups and they would do nothing. The crew just walked all o

Questions And Answers about Raising Canes

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Raising Cane's a better place to work?
Asked Feb 9, 2018
If I was in charge, I would start by educating myself about the company. What is the most popular seller and why do the guest like the most about Raising Caine. I would share my findings with the team. The next step is to ensure everyone is trained on hospitality and customer service. I would ensure that the team is having fun while working, without jeopardizing the guest experience. As for the pay rate, focus on giving raises due to performance and accountability. Give them a monthly evaluation and discuss opportunities. This will motivate them to work harder and stay focused on their job performance.

If I was in charge I’ll simply 1. Raise pay for all workers who show dedication towards the restaurant and really show out for it. 2. Fire about 75% of management because of how poor they do things for the crew members. 3. Have the times not be vary on how good we are rather then having a set time but not too hard just right because raising canes is a very very busy place so management should know how things get down in the kitchen and drive thru. Last but not least I’ll give a bonus for the hard workers who have big hours or show dedication too the restaurant varys on how hard you work and how many hours you get paid so I’ll basically help the crew members more then anything else.
