Job placement
We'll all in all it's okay I asked for 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and I was scheduled all around their schedule but not what I asked for and when you come back from returning from a trip you have to sit around and wait for another trip to be sent to your phone
ProsYou get to see the clear mountain side in drive

Great people
I've been with Railcrew express for almost 2 years. The area manager is 1 of the best bosses I've had in 20 yrs. Such amazing hard working people that are devoted to family. I'm proud to transport the train crews and assist whenever I can.

have nothing to say. it was very stressful and management was not properly trained which caused the day to day productivity to lack excellence. But the contracted railroad we worked for was a blessing and very patient with Railcrew Xpress
Prosthe work itself was not stressful

Good job
This is a job of data entry, with flexible hours and management that listens. The job is to support the railroads, to make sure that the trains make it to where they are going. I appreciated the time I spent there.

Waste of time
The pay for this job is lousy. The drivers are better off becoming truck drivers with the time and effort they put in. Due to this lousy pay managers suffer having to do the drivers job because most drivers refuse to work. Having been a manager you have to put up with lazy people, and at the same time your upper management is standing on your next. This is a very stressful job and I do not recommend it to anyone. The hours are up and down so do not look for full time work because once the railroad slows down you better have another job lined up.
Prosnone
Consall aspects of the job.

not a great place to work
Railcrew was not a great place to work, the management was poor. Their was a lot of new employees who came in, and advanced because they knew management

Just a job
I enjoyed the driving aspect of the job. The being on call and varied amount of long hours wasn't always fun. I wish that the company offered more opportunities and benefits.
ProsEasy work
ConsBad pay and benefits

Upper respiratory issues, I had to wear a mask, which was detrimental to my own health, and subsequently, I was forced out of the company.
Really enjoyed the work and the people, but as specified above, the company has no ability to be flexible to any degree, even if being flexible actually works to their benefit.
ProsNo pressure if you simply perform in the position as a professional driver
ConsNo keys to get in the building after more than 3 months of employment, $10 per hour negotiated by the union.

Questions And Answers about Railcrew Xpress (RCX)

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Railcrew Xpress (RCX) a better place to work?
Asked Jun 8, 2019
Assign all current drivers a set route, that ensures that the employees make their hours on a weekly basis instead of hiring more drivers only to not use them as much. This company needs some serious revisions in regards to management to actually keep their employees.
Answered Nov 21, 2021
I , think that drivers should be paired up to help keep 1 another and the crews safe on driving to an from. Yes fatigue plays a huge factor for mistakes as well as when anything could go wrong there would be 2 trained drivers.

Pay needs to be $20.00 an hour on every job, everything is expensive to live. And for working class individuals most jobs are some kind of hazardous so pay more to satisfy people

If you were to leave Railcrew Xpress (RCX), what would be the reason?
Asked Mar 22, 2017
They insist they assign trips based on your position when you sign in for your non paid on call time. However you can be in first position from the beginning of the on call period due to an unspoken about ranking system. Though you are told trips are not assigned by seniority they give drivers rankings based on seniority that assigns trips when they could be in fourth position. Also they can bypass the auto call system and make calls to any driver even if they are not in position for a trip. Difficult to make a living when you're told it is only up to you how many hours you work. They also at times restrict you from getting trips if you're getting too much overtime. But don't tell you so you can be on non paid on call at times when they know you will not be assigned a trip. They will also beg you to take trips when you have driven 10 hours for that day. They put the responsibility on you to track this time. I have seen drivers get in accidents due to fatague and then get terminated.

Do they hire felons
Asked Feb 14, 2017
When I worked in Lincoln, they had several ex-felons there.
Answered Apr 3, 2019
Felons can't drive for railcrew because we often transport around crews around trains that carry dangerous chemicals and weapons but felons could possibly work as dispatchers
