Overall Reviews at Public Storage

Very productive and fairly calm at most property locations
You get what you put into the job. Public Storage is a fine place to work at given that I had very nice people and managers around me every time I was on duty. Bear in mind though that if you are kind, patient, and act professionally under all circumstances, you'll do just fine. Then again as an US Army veteran it was very easy for me acclimate to the work environment.
ProsGood training and nice people

A huge storage company that was run like a store front storage company
This company is huge, but it was run like a mom and pop store front storage company. They didn't do there research before they started a pick up and delivery service and it didn't work out for them. Too many unprofessional guys loading furniture and didn't know what they were doing, so people filed claims against them. Too many claims so the pick up and delivery was discontinued.
ProsFlexible if you had to leave for a family emergency.

People are great, pay? not so much.
I love the people and management I work with. I just need to find some where where I can go with the company. People have been sales agents for over 15 years.
Prospeople there are fun to work with
Consshiftbids, commissions scale, no room for advancement, you are only scheduled 37.5 hours a week

Sold out. No longer a company
Good company while it lasted but sold out to Public Storage. No longer exist as a company. I’m just creating extra characters now to make this comment box go away

Don’t stay long
This job is good if you need to get back into work life and use as a stepping stone but do not get stuck into the housing. There is no growth opportunities besides a resident manager at minimum wage.

Enjoyable place to work.
Public storage is an enjoyable place to work especially if you enjoy working alone. Most of your time is spent working alone. The hardest part of the job is having to occasionally work outside in the elements. The most enjoyable part of the job was training new employees.

Became mononatous
Rewarding when I was Rookie of the Year. Afterwards...became less so due to nature of the business. Rental of storage units was just not exciting and or competitive.

Don't do it!!
The most unprofessional environment in which I've EVER worked. Management is so far removed from the culture of employees within respective groups. The entire corporation is technologically illiterate.
One employee "runs" the department and has completely snowed management, external and internal customers alike. I was hired, trained and acquired processes quickly and well. So well that not only was I directed to "slow down", that a multitude of gross errors by the other "one employee" in the department were brought to light, which created a lot of clean-up, excuses, and blatant lies from this other "one employee." I received praise from external and internal customers for expediency, attention to detail, and respecting the call for urgency of turnover. Management also praised my performance.
When I made the request to management that others in the department speak English when in the department, (especially knowing much of the conversation surrounded derogatory comments about management and fellow coworkers) I was removed from my position the following day.

Great job for the short term
After over 6 years working with the company, I had reached the highest position I could as a field level employee. I reached this position before my 3 year mark, so I had been in the same place for over 3 years with no hope or goal of being challenged and doing something that would be more pay and lead to growth. If you don't mind not ever being able to get another promotion after 2 steps up then it's a great job. Flexibility is awesome, pay is decent for the work you do. However, bonus structure is set up that only property managers are likely to bonus and most get the minimum amount, if they are lucky enough to get anything.

Fun workplace
Probably the easiest workplace I've ever been in. The culture is great, headed by a fantastic District Manager. The work is manageable, but the pay isn't enough where one might have to work another job to live a little.
ProsThe workload is pretty manageable, and there are lean months when things slow down significantly.
ConsLow pay

Very routine work
The job is 50% janitor and 50% customer service. Co-workers good.. HR unhelpful. Minimum support from the management who do not appreciate your opinion.
ProsStable
ConsMean salary increase
