Fun place to work, Got me through college
I loved working for PSP, however the pay wasn't the best for the amount of work that had to be done. I worked for a franchise and I stayed there for a very long time, but there was no more room for growth once I became the store manager and my location was very small. I had to do a lot of the heavy lifting and cover for whenever my employees decided to not show up. It was a lot of work for little pay. I loved my job and I would have loved to continue working for them until I got my masters degree but the work to pay ratio just wasn't great.

Productive, great work environment
Pet supplies plus is a great work place and a great environment with great people. Everybody gets along and works together so nicely the managers are amazing you get to see animals every day and talk to some really great people.

Great Coworkers but Management could do a lot better
Working at Pet Supplies Plus is a great job. I love animals and with that being said it almost doesn't seem like work at all. I cater to the needs that the animals our company sells and also unload trucks and stock shelves. I feel like the management crew has overlooked the amount of effort and dedication that I put toward this company which is why I feel that it's time for me to depart.
ProsGreat coworkers and customers

Stressful, toxic work environment, non livable wage
I worked at store 8018 and it was a horrible experience. The managers were all unappreciative and bad talked everyone, including each other. I made a dollar more than minimum wage after a year of working and being the top cashier. I worked 3 months of Saturday’s in a row (I was the only employee they scheduled like that).
As a morning cashier, you are also expected to clean all of the fish tanks, which meant your back was to the register, so you would have to turn around every 30 seconds to see if a customer is waiting to check out. So it was a race to the sink to wash our hands of fish water, attempt to dry them off, and get to the register before the customer has to wait too long. Because we have so many tanks and so many steps are involved, this could take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to do.
Since I quit, all but the managers and two stock guys have left.
ProsYou get to interact with a variety of different pets
ConsNo breaks other than 30 minute lunch if you work 7+ hours, toxic environment, extremely low paying

Pretty good place to start out
If you need a solid retail job and don't mind dealing with horrible people, PSP isn't a bad place to start. Just don't think that the pay is going to go up anytime soon, it won't.

good first job
This was my first "real job". didn't really know what to expect but I worked here for 3 years and had the skills to fill an open management position and was denied because the manager's friend needed a job, but was under qualified for the position.

Great Job, Rough management
Direct supervisors were awesome, but upper management left something to be desired.
Left the job when management changed and the entire work environment became lackluster and started losing customer.
ProsGood work, fun sales, dogs!
ConsBad corporate managers

Very inefficiant workplace
A typical day at work for me is putting out stock. While working here, I have picked up a few skills such as patience and becoming more social. My managers are extremley inefficiant, lazy, and truly do not care about their responsibilities. My co-workes are just the same; very lazy. The hardest part my job is finding the motivation to keep doing my best.
Consno benefits, no raises, workload too great

great place to be at my time of employment
8 to 10 hours of building a turn key retail pet store, a lot about the pet industry, management were all great from top to bottom. I had 5 people that worked under me and were all good people, hardest part was the travel we flew all over the mid west and south from east coast to Texas to Florida and north to Minnesota, meeting all the new franchisees

enjoyable co-workers, and management as well was customers
i love my job, i clean animals all day, help people figure things out about pets and things they need.i've learn you can't please everyone and going above and beyond in this company gets you no where, the hardest part of the job is when customers pets dont make it, and the miserable workers that bring the vibe down, working with the guys in the stock room is always fun with they can see what a woman can do just the same as them and sometimes more.
