The people are what make the job!!!
Upper management is the worst part. They are not always the most communicative and often make decisions without taking the stakeholder into account. The people and the culture are what make Payless truly a great place to work
ProsThe culture

Nice work environment
Payless was such a good retail job. I was a Key Holder at my store and would sometimes travel to other stores when needed as well. I loved the responsibility and working with people.

Always busy, no work-life balance
Typical retail- you have to work nights, weekends, holidays, etc. There is always enough work to keep you busy- especially as there was such a tight payroll budget that many times you're the only person working the entire store.
Prosdiscount
Consno breaks, no balance

It was okay
The job itself was not to hard but depending what kind of store you were in the flow of the job itself was quite slow pace pay was okay but I personally like a faster pace job

Excellent place for a college student to make income
Some of my review is not much about the company but the manager that first hired me.
I had a great manager starting up, he taught me well about dealing with customers and tested me on real time. I became the default person to receive customers. He was good at seeing people's potential and keeping a relaxed yet busy work environment.
On a typical work day I would mainly remain at the men department, any sign of somebody coming I would walk up near the door and welcome the prospective customer, inform of our specials, find out what bring the customer to our store, then make myself available or lead the customer to someone else if I was busy. "If you need any help just let me know" "if you need any help let me or (coworker) know and we will be happy to help you"
I enjoyed this job, I had a good schedule that allowed me to attend school at the same time I held the job, tossed me into uncomfortable situations like talking to complete strangers
the hardest part was dealing with my newest manager. It was not an enjoyable place to work, half of the team quit, I got removed from what I enjoyed doing, people stopped coming to the store.
Prosflexible schedule, potential to even make friends
Consreally low pay

Productive and diverse place to work at.
A typical day at work included interacting with customers whether it was a friendly greeting or helping them find what they're looking for. I learned to manage a workplace and train other employees to eventually work here too. I enjoyed displaying shoes for customers to buy throughout different seasons.
