Every day is a challenge. Constant change in the company. Reduction in force twice in the past year and re-organization still in process.
I enjoy the challenge each day and working with others. It is a very rewarding feeling when I can evaluate and handle a problem that ends with good results and a happy customer. A typical day at Pactiv as a Production Scheduler/Planner: Customer Service is very important at Pactiv. While working as Production Planner/Scheduler, I face daily challenges as we aim to fill every customer order at 100%. I must prioritize e-mails and issues to their level of importance each day. “A” Customer potential issues are worked on first. If an “A” customer has supply issues, they are addressed immediately. Example Emergency: “A” customer shipment was going to be missed because machine broke down overnight. I worked on this issue early in the morning and still provided the 10AM Potential Issues Daily Report. • I worked with production team for possibilities and options to move tooling to another machine so that production could continue. • I worked with warehouse team to delay shipment to the evening so that we could provide some product, to prevent the total shortage. • I worked with Customer Service, to find out what the “True” needs were on the shipment. • I also planned to move additional product in from another manufacturing location to increase the available product for the customer on the next day, as I was unsure how long it would be before production could actually continue. Result: Customer received the product that was truly needed the next day, due to t
ProsCompensation is okay salary plus bonus and can work from home when necessary.
ConsMust work 50 hours a week to feel like I have done a good job. Do not have a "go to" supervisor, who is often too busy to help when a problem occurs.

Butt busting sweat shop
First off this is the American equivalency of working in a sweatshop in Bangladesh. At times the ambient air temperature in the facility is over 100 degrees. People literally pass out from the heat. Does this sound awesome to your for less than $12 an hour for a packer rate? But hey they have squincher and freeze pops just in case you decide to go dying on them. Listen this place is a joke. They advertise bonuses. You can get $100 bonus if you make production which happens rarely because the machines are garbage and can't stay running. Right now the place is a million pounds behind schedule. So don't count on any bonus. And there is a safety bonus of $40 a month on a gift card if no recordable injuries. This isn't like your getting a weekly bonus or anything. Count on about an extra $500 a year in bonuses. They don't follow corporate handbook. Any company that blatantly violates their own company handbook and is smug about it and says "too bad" you should know to stay away from. You're supposed to get 3-20 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch according to the handbook. That doesn't exist because Mount Carmel managers refuse to allow it. And you dare no question it. Everyone that works there agrees that the only thing good is that you work 15 days a month and no mandatory ot. But they are hard 12 hour days sweating and busting your butt in an extremely hot environment working on dinosaurs of machines. They refuse to fix major issues with machines until they are

Fired for No Reason
This company is an absolute garbage fire. I worked as a temp-to-hire for a little less than three weeks. I came to work thirty minutes early every day, and did not miss a single day in my time there. I went where I was told, did what I was told, and never walked away from the line without making sure that there was someone able to take my spot for a few minutes so we didn't fall behind. I had absolutely zero arguments or even disagreements with my coworkers, and though we didn't talk much, all of my conversations with them were pleasant. I didn't complain outside of a few minor, joking remarks, which my coworkers and I all laughed at. I was told by MULTIPLE full-time, experienced people that I was doing a good job and shouldn't have a problem getting hired. My last night there, I left in a great mood. It had been my best night yet, and I thought that I had found the area I wanted to work in when I went full-time. The next day, I woke up to a phone call from my temp agency, telling me not to come back in. Apparently they had received an email that claimed that I didn't follow directions, didn't get along with my coworkers, and that I "had an attitude." I was completely blindsided. Again, I was always on-time, always cooperative, and my "complaining" was no more extreme than anyone else's. I had never ONCE raised my voice, snapped at anyone, or made a single nasty remark about a coworker. That's just not something I do. I have to move in less than a month, and I had b

Use to be great place to work - now it is a paycheck and not much else
Pactiv use to be a fantastic place to work, and was a company I thought I would retire with. Unfortunately, sometimes things change for the worse, and in this case it did when the Rank Group (Reynolds/Graham Hart) bought the company. The new Pacitv is DRAMATICALLY focused on money and profits! I do respect this, but the employees are not even mentioned or referred to in the mission statement or vision statement. This is intentional and you will feel it in the company by the way you will be treated. If you need a paycheck to pay the bills, then Pactiv will provide this for you. Do not expect anything else from them and you will be content. You will need to get your feeling of self-worth and appreciation elsewhere. Turn-over (voluntary in addition to plant closures and layoffs) at this company has been extremely high (yes, even in this economy) in recent years, and that is a direct reflection of upper management (truthfully - it is probably their marching orders) and their lack of ability (or inability due to "marching orders") to treat employees "better". It really isn't that hard, but the general consensus was: 'they don't care [about us]". You will find the company has a good focus on safety - not as good as it use to be, but still good (at least for now). Pactiv also does follow all (most) legal rules and is a straight-up company. Pactiv is a very fast paced environment, they will demand A LOT from you. You will find that you will be asked to do a mil

NOT A SAFE NOR PROPER TRAINING IN PLACE
I was hired in as a temp I worked 7 1/2 days the equipment never was in proper working condition so limited training say I could not keep up with bagging product out of seven days the equipment was down at least four of those days and the days that they did work they would run for and hour down for a least two hours they expected me to keep up with people that have been there for 7 to 14 years well the real kicker is they let me go because they have workers come in from NW where people with DISABILITIES come in there to work well in the seven days I have been there I take notice to one of those workers being mistreated so I go to the boss to make her aware of the situation give a written statement about it I also told her how I feel about this I have a family member with the same disability and I made the statement that anyone treated him that way heads would roll just trying to get the point across to her about how important this situation is so later they came to me saying they had to let me go because I made an indirect threat on and employee well I did not make any threats on anyone but if I had known by doing the right thing was going cost me my job I would have just said something to the worker myself but I took this to who I thought would handle this and a proper manner so I was asked to leave and the bully of handicap people still working so bottom line this company has no compassion for the weak that they allow to work in their work place so I hope the new owners c

With proper management, could be nice place
I worked her for 2 years and never could understand the place..So many rules are broken I dont know how the place is still in operation, although they make it seem as if no rules are broke.Be prepared to have things thrown at you at all directions, I was an operator and it was always the operators faults..Always increasing work load of operators as if Running 2 and 3 machines wasnt enough and turning in 3-4 pages of redundant info from front to back of each sheet. They do have rps guys who help but they are hit or miss,Mostly out in the break room and you have to call them on radio for there help.If you work for this company and it isnt all bad although mostly...DONT work for first shift. The Lead there is VERY much unhelpful, talks down to you with disrespect and spends about 3 to 3.5 hours a day outside smoking and thats not right. You can work your butt off each and every day and give it your best but...at the end of each day you get harrased by a few people of what went wrong or why scrap is too high and frankly its not fair to the operator whose now almost exhauseted dead tired and they walked by or stared at the machines messing up most of the day..Needs to be a serious House cleaning of management at this facility..Too many of "ive been here so long I can do whatever I want attitudes"Benefits are good, they provide you with 60 dollars of shoes a year..If they switched out management it probably would be a descent work environment..But pay is wayyy Below average..Be prepar

Paycheck collectors
Pactiv is another big company that breeds paycheck collectors. They do not believe in accountability unless your boss has to answer to his. You can work hard or work little and still earn the same amount. As long as you don't stir the pot or cause people to want to unionize, you are golden. Management is too busy watching movies and blaming everyone else rather than fixing problems and addressing issues their subordinates are bringing to them. When discipline does need to be enforced, they turn to HR to make the call rather than HR approving/disapproving the decision of the supervisors. Its a completely backwards system and causes for total disrespect of the workers towards their superiors. And forget about promotions within. Its a good ol' boys club and the only people hat are promoted are those that fit in. It has nothing to do with qualifications or experience; only how good you can kiss butt. They'd rather hire people outside the company in the hopes that they will bring something to the table to fix the culture. The only hope you can have for advancement is if someone is fired or retires. Even then, Pactiv is more likely to just dump their workload on you and keep your pay the same. 12 hr shifts sucked because you work almost every holiday, even when other plants are shut down. It is not family friendly. Even people in upper management can't stand their jobs at that company are only looking to retire as soon as possible. Pactiv is semi-pro and com

Stay Away
Was just hired not long ago. I was very excited at first. They are suppose to place you with a mentor. My first day I did not have one. The second day I did for one day, they pre-did my 5 day plan without me doing the rest of the days not worked yet. Safety is a big issue. I tried to change tape from a packing machine and another packer and the Operator said this is how you do it. They left the machine plugged in, did not use that safety stops on the blade, they just change it out. They also do this with the machine on. No wonder they have a lot of injuries. You get this training packet for 5 day with your suppose mentor. They don't eve follow their own rules here. They do have great workers here but management seems out of touch and they do not communicate. On orientation they did not go over direct deposit, when you start your benefits, did not tell me my probation period while here. They tell the new hires to ask questions if you have any, it seems like it a nuisance when you do ask a questions. Pay is ok starting out but according on the experience that work here for a long time there are not many pay raises. I have been here long enough and they still do not know my name. I can see the first couple days etc. No communications or lack there of. They expect you to follow their company rules but they do not practice their own rules. Do as I say not as I do.

Pactiv Shared Services
I can't speak for all if Pactiv, but as for Shared Services, If you are over thirty, stay away! Pactiv has very good benefits, however their compensation is not so good. The job of Deductions Specialist is repetitive and manual. Basically a number who fills a seat and crunches numbers all day. There's not a whole lot of people interaction, or job satisfaction, and very little value on experience. Management is terrible!! My last manager was an exception to that rule. I should have seen a red flag when the manager that interviewed me said "Now there are going to be days that you just have to push your way through, they may not be pleasant. Little did I know at the time that that would be an every day experience. I cannot recommend Pactiv as a nice place to work. People are stand-offish, nobody greets in the hall, or your department for that matter, and there are a lot of cliques and a lot of favoritism. Managers tell you to ask questions, but BEWARE! If you do your manager will think that you do not know your job and ask too many questions!! Managers totally stick to themselves and have very little contact with their employees. It's supposed to be a team environment, however emails are addressed as “All" not “Team". I felt the environment was stifling and toxic, and not a healthy place to spend 40 hours a week!

Account Manager | Lake Forest, IL | Feb 8, 2015
Pactiv
Being a Customer Account Representative for Pactiv allowed me to utilize my customer service skills and experience in a fast paced environment and an ever changing field. This company and position opened doors to new experiences regarding supply chain and account management. The company has many resources for one to advance within the company as well as online classes to sharpen skills in specific areas of the business. Training is taken seriously and once is encouraged to ask many questions. The supervisors in the department are open to opinions in order to improve operations. A typical day for Account Representatives would be to run reports for respective plants and warehouses within the company. These reports will show what products are being made, sold, and not arriving to our customers. Our case fill for our customers is tracked and they are given a best date if we were unable to fully fill their orders. We responded to outside calls from existing and would be customers as well as be an extension of the sales force. Most customer account representatives process 350-400 orders a month depending on their experience level. We also assisted sales in securing new business by processing sample cases of product to be sent as well as existing customers by processing special rush orders.

Questions And Answers about Pactiv

Do they hire people with a felon?
Asked Dec 8, 2016
Sadly they do. Make me wonder why they bother with the background checks and hair sample drug tests. Worked with some really shady people there. Can't trust your coworkers any more than management.
Answered Mar 5, 2019
Yeah they do. And it's a good thing. Felons has bills also. If a person has a felony, they shouldn't be judged by it their entire life. Get real. It's 2019.
