Good experience to work in Darfur dealing with big challenges
I was experience difficult work environment in conflict affected area of North Darfur. But I was managed to perform my duties satisfactorily.
I was used to work in a risky environment that would require comprehensive security analysis.
I was used to adopt more comprehensive security measures, improvements and awareness's
I was properly managed the situation in programme monitoring in collaboration with Government, UN agencies, local authorities & INGOs found in the region.
ProsCoordinating my work in very vulnerable environment
A dynamic work place where creativity and initiative area encouraged
Oxfam Great Britain is a great opportunity full of challenges. I was greatly challenged on several occasions. Opportunities and resources are given for the employee fulfil.
Work culture with specific tools and procedures in place help work in an organized manner. Despite the process, the environment encourages flexibility, innovation and creativity. Learning is greatly encouraged and shared.
I learn more key aspects from the Oxfam GB through the Emergency response and Development project in many districts. the management appreciated my performance and given more opportunity to working several part of the country.

Amazing NGO
Oxfam America is a great place to work. Employees are truly passionate about the important work that the organization pushes. I was given responsibility and guidance on a daily basis.
Oxfam offered me the opportunity to lead the the whole settlement in coordination and supervision of the WASH interventions and compiling all the settlement WASH report from all the Partners working in the settlement

Typical day:
- Rise early, return late.
- Help, share, support, people in need after 2017 hurricanes Irma and Maria.
What I learned:
- Globaly accepted non-discriminatory practices
- Passion for response/support after a natural catastrophic event
- The reality of non-governmental organizations, 85% of the resources are spent by the organization, leaving a scarce 15% for the real need
- The reality about both state and federal response inadequacy for the 2017 response efforts
- The reality of how a state government can derail a response/recovery effort by allowing personal greed to take over population's well being in the aftermath of natural catastrophic disasters
- Poverty levels in the island have been underestimated by far by all recent past administrations
- The island is going to be successful in its recovery if and only if local non-profit, non-governmental organizations bear the brunt. If we allow international non-profit organizations lead the effort we are going to allow the island to sink again, considering that only 15% of the aid actually ends -up in the country if an international NGO handles the effort.
Management:
- Highly skilled and experienced
Workplace culture
- Outstanding
Hardest part of the job:
- The exit performance evaluation fell short of my expectations, by far, after having performed the most rewarding and outstanding response recovery effort in the island by impacting over 2,000 households in the worst struck areas of the island, the inner
ProsGot to know the mountain people, their remarkable humbleness, and perseverence during the aftermath of natural disasters.
ConsExpectations fell short during the transition from the response to the recovery stage, lack of continuity of the programs and opportunities gathered during the initial response.

Great place to work and learn
The organisation values people; it has policies to support personal development;provides opportunities to learn. The brief descriotion about the organisation is as follows:
Oxfam is a global movement of millions of people who share the belief that, in a world rich in resources, poverty isn't inevitable. In just 15 years, extreme poverty has been halved. 15 more years and we can end it for good.
I have great experience working with vulnerable people , helping them to find solutions to change their lives. It helped me to understand cultural dynamics and the essence to adapt interventions for the target groups.
Oxfam embraces excellence and professionalism. The workload is really heavy but the people are also friendly and helpful. Oxfam also offers good opportunities for learning and travel (both domestic and international).

Fascinating enjoyable worthwhike
Inclusive positive encouraging. I felt that my experience in bookselling was put to good use.
I was able to accept and receive advice and keep the customers satisfied.
Staff was very keen to show me up and say am not doing my job properly to a point where I had to walk out and never go back so no don't recommend you work for them.
Busy wok environment but very rewarding. Work colleagues always available to assist despite their full inboxes. The workload is big but with proper planning one would pull through
Just another place to volunteer and jumpstart a career
This is just a student branch of Oxfam Canada, which means there is very little chance for career advancement within the organization. It is a great place to learn about youth advocacy and development and a great place to network.
I had a great experience as a volunteer at Oxfam. The manager was lovely and all the other volunteers were a delight to work alongside. Friendly atmosphere.
It's actually a great job since we spend all of our time trying to help the local population to get a better live. I don't think you could get a more rewarding job.
ProsWork in underdevelopped country
ConsYour far from friends and family
