A so-so place to work
The personnel on the floor can get the job done, but, like any work force, the supervisor must stay available/seen for them to make rate. The management, particularly the Operations Manager, has the problem solving techniques of a dinosaur. His technique about overcoming problems is to throw more personnel at it. When the job is completed, lay them off. Cannot think past his desk, and has an aversion to, long-term solutions. Doesn't like training personnel on the floor. The training is done by the Supervisor, at their level. The Engineers are doing so much paperwork and attend so many meetings, they can't get anything done on the floor. Most have meetings 7 out of the 8 hours a day. The contractors are the only ones whom are really getting things done. There was a recent 'epiphany' at the CEO level, the project tracking should be done via Excel spreadsheet rather than MS Project. The management even went to China for a week to come up with this clunky, hard-to-use, time consuming and; in the opinion of most of the engineers, completely worthless method to track projects. A position was actually created in each plant for a person to attend all meetings just to ensure this worthless method was implemented and updated. I spoke to this person and asked questions about how to incorporate date changes, include steps that could've been forgotten and remembered later, and alarms in the software to notify you about project impacts, to which they couldn't answer. I stated MS Project ac

Great company with an excellent benefit package and several various career opportunities
In being employed by the company for 18 years, I have been offered the opportunity to work in several various roles. I started as a sales representative and worked my way up to roles such as General Manager, Regional Sales Manager and my current role as Regional Business Development Manager. I have enjoyed each role for different reasons. One of the things I enjoyed the most is being able to teach others what I have learned throughout my career and being to experience others' successes. The most difficult part of my job has been to getting others to work cohesively within the operation and create a team effort towards a common goal. Once accomplished, it was very rewarding to see the group operating as one. My typical day at work consists of communicating with numerous customers on various topics, educating subordinates on processes and reinforcing the importance of achieving their sales goals, tracking and report results to my superiors. In closing, I have enjoyed many successes throughout my career most of which being the successes of others through my tutelage. I have also met several interesting people as well as developed close working relationship with my many high ranking managers in numerous capacities.

Call IUEC ask when apps are being accepted.
Work-life balance It’s union IUEC international union of elevator constructors and was a four year apprenticeship but now it’s five. It has incredible Benefits. Otis offered to pay any extra schooling I might want related to the trade and also gave me 50 a week for gas which was generous. Great company to work for great union but I got hit in a car accident and had bad vertigo And it seemed it wasn’t going away so I left thinking my chance was over . Pay & benefits There’s per diam pay and it’s based of the union hall in Glendora to where your job is it’s called zone pay and it’s a daily additional pay. Plus vacation pay if 6-8 percent twice a year if your hours worked time base pay. Like I said incredible benefits Job security and advancement Work hard and become a higher position for higher pay. Three types of elevator work new construction , modification and service. Construction is all overtime is double time. But it’s harder. Management I only had good experiences with Otis I wish I never left but I was sick Overall One of best paid jobs ..’cncmfmcmcmcmmcmfmfmfmmfmfmfmfmfdkfkfkfkfkfkfkfktktktktkggkgklfldmfmfmfmgrmffkfkkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkfkkkfkfkfkfkfkkfkfkfkfkfkf

A Rewarding Place To Work
(Temporary Contractor) At the Otis Research And Development Center, we strive to develop safer, smarter and energy efficient elevator systems. My primary responsibilities as a Contractor include the prototyping of various assemblies related to all of the elevator's operating systems. These systems include the Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and Remote Monitoring of the actual elevator. I performed all stages of prototyping under the guidance of the Engineering Department. This includes the use of Hand and Power Tools, Electronic Test Equipment, Soldering Printed Circuit Boards, Wiring and Fabrication. I am familiar with all types of Soldering from Thru- Hole, SMT, Trace Cuts, Component Modifications, Wire Bonding and some Die Attach. After the Fabrication Stage has been completed, I also assist with Testing and Data Collection of the new equipment. The Testing includes Thermal, Environmental, and Surge Protection of the various operating systems. Once the equipment is fully tested it is sent out into the field and installed in a functioning elevator where more testing is done.

a typical day at work
I enjoy working their until they change management. I had so much work that the day went so fast. All my co-workers were happy to work and I was too but a new Manager showed up and started to treat some of the co-workers horrible include myself. He use to yield at my co-worker and myself. He taught that by being the Manager he had the right to do what ever he wanted with us. That is the reason I left because of the poor Manager. The Manager did not had any Manager skills. I reported him with Human Resources in Corporate office but he was still their. Now I found that he no longer their I will really like to go back their. Finally they did something good to transfer him out to Mexico. He was a rude Manager. He had preference with some co-workers.. oh well I wish him well and I am to hear that he his no longer here in California and I can hear that some of my co-workers or happy to hear that he is gone. Even thou I do not work their I am happy that the rest of my co-workers are finally happy... and enjoying their work.

Electronic Assembler | Florence, SC | Jun 19, 2021
One hand has no idea what the other hand is doing
Some of your coworkers are cool but, most all feel threatened by you if you're a good, hard worker and will do things to make you angry so you get into an argument and get fired. If you're a temp, you're a peasant. Lots of gossip and BS to deal with. It's a very cut-throat environment and management will most likely tell you that, but do nothing about it. The pay is pretty low for what they expect of you. The supervisors are usually clueless about what goes on or they just don't care. They will tell you that temps and full time employees are equal but, it's definitely not the case. You'll be asked to do work you're not qualified or properly trained for. You'll be bouncing around from line to line without proper training and without being compensated for doing other people's work when you should be getting a pay differential. The place is a mess, to say the least.
ProsFree lunch cards sometimes
ConsAwful management, too much gossip, being a temp for a ridiculous amount of time before being hired on, doing things you're unqualified for.

My time at Otis Elevator
Otis Elevator is not a bad job to work as long as you’re hired on and aren’t a temp. If you are a temp you’re basically a nobody within the company. You don’t get vacation hours, pto hours, bonuses, holiday pay, 401 k, etc. It really is a slap in the face because you’re working hard if not harder then everyone else but don’t get the benefits as ppl that are hired on. Not to mention that in order to get rolled over , you have to have worked for 600+ hrs, and then apply for a position within the company and hope to get hired on. I’ve never worked a job where you have to do all of that to be considered for the company. Not to mention that if you’re working a line that is assembly 3 ( which is higher pay ) you won’t get paid for assembly 3 work until you’re hired on! Definitely not a place to stay or get comfortable at unless you’re hired on from jump. The management and supervisors suck but that’s with most companies. Go figure.
ProsPay is decent when you’re working 10 hr shifts, off on weekends
ConsBad management, no benefits/perks unless you’re hired on

Fast Paced Office
A typical day at work is fast paced and the time goes by so fast. My day consists of assisting the sales reps with different issues with incoming project jobs. I issue the job number, compile the documentation, send out certificates, invoice out the down payments, and load the job into system, handle customer’s questions or complaints. Some projects need certified payroll, as well as progressive payment with schedule of values. I assist the Superintendent with the permit process for the State of Oregon and the State of Washington, in addition to capturing material and labor for each project, assigning the technicians to the job and applying the PO’s to the correct job. This is a fascinating and exciting position. Obstacles and challenges are an everyday occurrence, a great sense of humor is needed, being easygoing and good natured helps get through a day that can have lots of stress.
ProsGreat co-workers, monthly pot lucks/team building events.
ConsThe benefits are terrible.

Very demanding but extremely rewarding position, lots of satisfaction
A lift mechanic is actually an area manager. It is a job "on the road". Good driving/road skills essential. A lift is a plant, layed out from bottom to top floor. Must be a good negotiator and communicator, inspiring professionalism, ethics, excellence, sense of responsibility, honesty. The job of a Lift Technician (officially called "Lift Mechanic" in SA) consists of taking complete responsibility over a portfolio of units (lifts) within a designated area, up to 100 units sometimes. Service, maintenance, tests, repairs, on site record documentation, house keeping, representing company to client(s) or site users. Repairs require high skills in mechanical and electrical fault finding, types/generations/ of lifts knowledge, working with computers, hydraulics (some lifts are hydraulic), etc. Very highly professionalism required to sort out faults within reasonable time, very rewarding also. Apart from scheduled service/maintenance, periodical tests (like lift's safeties), 3rd party inspections, it required attending to (unplanned) Call Backs at client's request, any time and promptly when the unit was giving problems, including rescue operations. Once a month, or 3 weeks, Stand By: attending to Call Backs and Emergencies after working hours, from 16.30 pm to 08am, over a group of areas/portfolios. Response time to site: 30 min, day or night. Overtime paid accordingly. That was the difficult part of it, completely unpredictable and quite tiring, in areas/buildi

Friendly and positively motivated working environment
OTIS is a lift and elevator engineering company that aims that include community service. Which includes providing awareness, through small event, to the college of the basic functions of corporate company and way, means or roots they could take in order to work in the corporate world. I worked as part of the PTFL department providing assistants to the events coordinator. I obtained a variety of skills while working at OTIS such as the importance of team work while planning an event and being methodical while planning an event, as it enables you to be better organised, insuring that all that is need for the event is available. The skills I obtained however and the sociably friendly environment also made working at OTIS enjoyable. As the staff were eager to provide help when needed in any area unfamiliar. Each working day provided a challenge, however this to made every working day very interesting as once the challenges were resolved in hind sight they weren't much of a challenge, they became achievements. In the short time that I worked at OTIS, I was able to gain insight about myself individually, as I became more aware of my abilities and passion for events planning.

People work with Safety, Ethics, Quality
It is a specialised company used to manufacture its product invented by Elizabeth Otis and till date the name of the inventor of safe lift is being patented by its mother company at U.S.A, presently associated with United Technologies at U.S.A and administration is being controlled by them through functional management system distributed in different Pacific regions. Our area was controlled by SAPA and daily reports are being send to the HQ and awaiting decision from them. I have learned different sorts of work like safe and smooth installation & maintenance process, marketing for a new product & modernization, generation of bills & collection to close the sale. Management was looking for the higher and higher target for example target has to be double of the the last year achieved target to assigned the next promotion. People were selfish/ non-co-operative due to higher target in the small market. Achieve the installation target, keep the lift running without break down due to other related others job and to collect the final payment. The most enjoyable part of the job is that the building is being identified as elevator-ed by World no.1 elevator company.Example- Governor House, Reserve Bank Of India, Hindustan Building, TATA Centre etc.

Varied but unorganised. Nothing is explained clearly.
Typical day can be varied which is good, but the area where I sit is a mess. Paperwork everywhere and just lying around. In terms of the work, there are little to no procedures to follow and nothing is explained to me very clearly for the many systems they use. I'm afraid to ask questions because apparently I'm already supposed to know it after unclear brief explanations from a couple of weeks prior. Co workers are ok for the most part but some can be two faced about other coworkers when they are not present. Talking negatively about others when they are not there in a condescending derogatory manner (myself included most likely). Not a very professional atmosphere. At first I wanted to stay here for the long term as it is a very short commute and the work even though is unclear and not explained properly, is actually pretty involving and engaging which keeps me busy throughout the day. Now I'd be happy to just want to move on once my contract finishes. The basic summary is because I'm a temp here I've just been thrown there with little to no help given on anything (logins etc). I don't feel valued here whatsoever. There are better places to work.
Prosshort commute
Consunorganised, little help given with the systems, unprofessional attitude
