Overall Reviews at Ollie's Bargain Outlet

Great flexibility in scheduling, pay so-so, fast pace, terrible above a store level
I've worked at this store for about two years. I enjoy the fast pace environment and feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish a days work. My manager is one of the best bosses I've ever had. She takes care of her employees as much as she can and defends us from upper management (the bad ones).
Above a store level, every person I have dealt with (except for one) has unreasonable expectations, favoritism in promotion, and don't want to pay their workers a reasonable pay.
My awesome manager had seen my hard work ethic and my results and wanted me to be promoted to the co-manager position within the first year that worked there. I had been hired as a supervisor (non-keyholder) and the next step was assistant manager. I had gone through her interview and passed but my DM at the time turned me down because "I can't just skip levels like that". Which makes no sense because they went with an outside hire who had never worked at this company before and I was overqualified for the position to begin with. I have been offered and begged to take higher positions, and I would be willing but now they won't compensate a reasonable amount in pay for the extra responsibilities and loss in flexible scheduling.
Overall a decent job, but high turn over rate at every store is due to not great pay and understaffing constantly.
Pros20% discount, super flexible schedule, great store managers, good pto, job security.
ConsUnreasonable expectations from corporate, favoritism above store level, pay (not good but better than some places)

in the beginning it was fun and the moral was good but as time went on everything changed.
When I started at Ollies it was just being built so the work was hard but fun.
We had to unload trucks, ticket merchandise and move it to the floor nd stock shelves.
Ollie's is old school.

The current general manager is terrible to work for. Do not waist your time with the job. I hear the pay is a joke these days.
The general manager that opened the store was the real deal! Great to work for easy going but Stern when he needed to be, just all around a great guy. The only reason I’m not working there today is because he slipped up and was forced into early retirement on a “technicality” that the assistant general manager was all to Willing to report. Given the assistant gms track record and constant negativity my loyalty followed my real general manager out the door.

The prices and customer service
This is a new location and position for many there. We have learned a lot from each other and working with our customers. The company will continue to get better if we stick to our goals.

Average Job
The job that was described to me with the rate of pay was not what finally happened. Promised promotion with raise which never materialized. Asked to do too many tasks without compensation.

Great to work for
I start working as a Sales Associate and moved to Guest Service Supervisor. I was supervisor over the front end. I scheduled breaks, counted cash drawers, kept front end clean.
I only left because I started schooling and found a job closer to school.

It's a great store. Great prices
It's a great store to work for. I worked for Ollie's for 2 and a half years and loved every day. I would go back but I live in another state now and the Ollie's is an hour away from me. Not including morning or evening traffic drive home in Houston, Texas.
ProsI had a great manager
ConsShipping sucked
