Back stabbers-most of them
I worked for them for 3 years and enjoyed the diversity of the clients. After I received my Master's the one director and I filled out paperwork for me to be MHP; however, it was never turned in to HR. Every time I said something about it, I was ignored. I was reminded my first job was psych tech II then MHP. (wrong, I still have the paperwork), I was working there as a PRN, In April I was "let go".
But it is okay to not do observations when they're supposed to, because the techs would rather sit on their butt instead of walking around to see where the clients happen to be at the time? Or do my supervision on the phone, when I am at home on a day off? Or to talk about the client's behind their backs and laugh at them? And to have cliques and talk about other staff members? Or to cut my hours down, but keep the one that turned in their 2-week notice after the 2-weeks are up; although that shift is covered?
Not having enough supplies for clients that need shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. but it is okay if I give it to them out of the stuff I had bought for bingo prizes, without so much of a thank-you, or "let me pay you back for that?"
And knowing that the clients are not getting the help they truly need and there is no structure there. Not allowed to work on ADL's with them; however, when they are discharged they are going to be doing them and if they do not know how to, it is a sad situation.
ProsWorking with the clients and knowing some will succeed without the help of the program.
ConsWhen you are hired as a Psych Tech II you are not told you have to cook on Sunday and Monday

Racist, prejudice, stereotypical
Not culturally competent or supportive if you’re not a white middle aged, or any aged, woman. Unless your in direct care you don’t see other employees of color in management or administrative positions.

Excellent opportunity to gain experience in the mental health field
Positive challenges: creatively assisting client growth
Negative: Intensely difficult and resistant staff with minimal support from administration to assist in managing them
Extremely poor work/life balance

great experience
Unique experience in the psychiatric field in an entry level position. The population you would see in this facility are adults with severe and chronic mental illnesses.

Can be a rewarding job
The most difficult part of the job is the traveling. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with the clients. There is availability for advancement if you are willing to relocate. Additionally there is availability to transfer jobs if you need to move to another part of the state.

Access tp community and therapeutic tools.
Working with children and their families to facilitate therapeutic sessions referencing a treatment plan you have devised. Most sessions will take place in the home setting but depending on you role you will observe and interact with the client and family in the community and/or school setting. Community and therapeutic resources available to each employee.

Very unprofessional
The South Jersey Branch needs new management. Marlton inst too bad but they need to do some internal cleansing. How can the employees do a good job when our management doesn't provide us the proper tools that we need?

unproductive workplace
Staff will complete work for a residential counselor, nurse, manager, ICM while attending to the needs of the consumers. How to be patient ,caring and understanding to needs of a consumer with mental illness. Management is very demanding and sometimes disrespectful to staff. Management is not always supporting of staff. Co-workers are not made to be courteous to one another , they show up late, call out at the last minute and there are no repercussions for their behavior. The hardest part is having to deal with all of the above and not lose your job. the most enjoyable part is working with the consumers and developing a relationship with them.
Prosnone
Consbad work atmosphere no staff support.

Stressful but rewarding
My experience working at Merakey was very positive however, the nature of the job was very stressful. It requires alot of self-discipline, a lot of after hours work that is not reimbursed. There is no benefits package, paid time off or sick days and if clients cancel, you don't get paid.
Prosrewarding
ConsNo pay if clients cancel

Worst Place to work
Offers the lowest pay in the business anywhere! A Master's degree position pays only $25 per hour! For every hour you get paid, you are expected to spend 20 min to an hour doing paperwork that is NOT paid. Management is lousy. There are NO benefits at all. You can purchase health benefits but as the management told me, it is worthless. The clients (kids) are awesome, working with them is rewarding but often, the parents are difficult and make your job stressful but management NEVER backs you up. It's all about money and keeping the money coming in, without regard to doing a good job and using tax payer funds to actually help these kids. The company closed the Stroudsburg office in June 2014 and management promised to pay unemployment. However, anyone who did not have another job to go to in June, was accused of falsifying documents and denied unemployment. I had all of my paperwork including parent's support and school paperwork showing I had not falsified but the company hired a lawyer (can you do that if you are unemployed?) and she restricted my introducing this into the record. While I could've appealed, I was unable to find a lawyer who would take the case because the LOW amount of money I would get wouldn't be worth it. This company appears to be filled with corrupted people who use taxpayer's dollars to bilk the system.
ProsThe clients are sweet
ConsLOTS of unpaid time you put in, Low pay, lying, cheat management
