I love Mattel
I really enjoyed working as temp in the legal department This place is like a well oiled machine they know exactly what they’re doing and the management is very friendly and encouraging I would go back and work there again in a heartbeat
As long as you don't mind the wrong people making all the decisions, but love your job it's a great place. The design people are fantastic and the design center is a really fun, creative place to work.
ProsFun
ConsAlways afraid you're going to lose your job, then you do.
A wonderful seasonal job; not sure about a full-time career
American Girl is an excellent place to work for a seasonal job. You get paid to take their training courses. The salary is very fair considering its location. You can relax in casual dress. Every supervisor I've had has been extremely nice and very knowledgeable. You are definitely treated as a member of the year-round team. My coworkers have been among the nicest people with whom I've ever worked. You even receive a free box of toys during the holiday season, as well as a holiday lunch.
The hardest part of the job is dealing with angry customers. Once in awhile you have to deal with some nasty people. Another tough part of the job would be the hours of work. You never know from week to week what your schedule will be. I wish American Girl would offer set schedules from which to choose at the beginning of the season so that you can plan your life a bit better. There is also some weekend work involved, particularly if you work in the Retail Support Services department (plan to work every other weekend if you work in RSS). However, I heard that the American Girl call centers may be going to every other weekend work.
If you want to work full-time at American Girl, you may not have an opportunity to do so quickly. You will want to plan to stay on seasonally for a year or more before applying for a rare year-round opportunity. Also, depending upon the department, you may have to put in your time in an evening shift, prior to moving to days if you go year-roun
ProsFree training; decent hourly wage; pleasant work environment; lovely coworkers
ConsUncertain hours; stressful customers; difficult to advance to daytime year-round opportunities
Great job, fast pace, changes all the time and be ready to adjust schedule for fire drills.
Land in first store about 8 a.m., meet with management and go over call objective and carry through. Locate POP, locate it to floor, set, pull product for set, complete, clean area, meet with management again, gain clearance on what I set, get signed off on project, sign out of the store, and drive to the next call and do the same. This could be up to 3 or 4 times in a day.
ProsI am given a pattern and time of calls, and I create my own schedule based on that information
Excellent Place to work (American Girl pre-Christmas)
The name of this company before Mattel bought it was "The Pleasant Company" and it still fits. Where I worked, most of the time, was in gift wrapping, it was clean and quiet enough to listen to piped in music that changed on a daily basis, I was well trained and the work areas were well stocked. When gift wrapping was slow I was used as a picker-packer and that was fun too!
We had free muffins once a week in a lunch room that had booths and least 4 separate counter top areas with a sink and a microwave and several refrigerators. Coffee was discounted and the machines were often set up to give free coffee.
I was the only guy in the gift wrapping department and a little slower than most of the women. I tried very hard to get my speed up there, while maintaining their very high quality expectations, of course, but they never complained to me that I wasn't getting enough done and even called me back the following year to ask if I wanted to come back. I can thank American Girl for knowing how to perfectly wrap a present so you can't see any tape and all the folds line up and I can tie a perfect bow! So what! I'm good with my hands, LOL.
Only one odd thing, you had to sign out and return the box cutters on a daily basis. One day I forgot and the supervisor called me up and asked me to return it immediately, so of course I did, left a note on her desk apologizing because I could not find her. No big deal, I thought, they are writing the checks and that's just how it is. A c
ProsWell treated, Food! Employee discounts for seasonal employees
ConsI can't think of anything bad about American Girl
Constant lay offs and reorgs. There is no job security there and Mattel is behind the times
Proshalf day fridays

Fun environment! Room for advancements and salary/bonus was very fair.
High peaks and low peaks therefore very fair in salary. Fun environment and job was not too difficult but demanding at times. During low peaks had a great work/family balance. Fridays you only worked half days and that made it easier for the long commute.
Overall great place and company to work for.
ProsFun and Exciting, Great allover benefits, they promote work/family balance.
El trabajo se vuelve muy negociador y de nucha demanda y empleo del recurso humano así como de las herramientas que nos proporcionan para llegar al objetivo general de la empresa.
ProsCuentas con todas las prestaciones y herramientas de trabajo

The work environment was very nice to me.

I would market its products toward the latest movies, music, and electronic gaming entertainment. By partnering with industry leaders Mattle could turn the corner from investors to inventors with personalized custom products and memorabilia.

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Mattel, Inc.? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Jul 15, 2016
Interviewed on Monday as direct hire clamp truck operator. Received a call Tuesday afternoon with an offer, background check sent via email to electronically sign, drug test form also... Print out form... Go get urine test done (15 mints.) Received email and call from main headquarters in California that background check had cleared... Started next Monday.
So about 5 days if you take care of things quickly and pass all checks!

What tips or advice would you give to someone interviewing at Mattel, Inc.?
Asked Jan 8, 2017
Ask for more money. The bonus usually does not come through. Ask about workflow and structure. If they're working on it, consider that a red flag.
