High stress environment
The company operates in a reactive mode on may fronts. As such there is a lot of stress here, especially in IT services. The company recently had a work force reduction and has never properly staffed the organization since then as business has recovered.
ProsAt GM and above compensation is pretty good
ConsBelow manager level the company is average for benefits.

Good people to work with, top of the line equipment
I would recommend Maersk Drilling to anyone seeking to work in the drilling industry. Maersk is always on the cutting edge of technology with its drilling equipment. Safety is always a number one concern onboard all the vessels.

A great place to work the is off-shoring many functions.
There is/was enough work to keep me busy and make the day go by quickly. I am lucky that my managers have been terrific people for whom to work and the sense of camaraderie is unparalleled.
I had an opportunity to learn SAP and was trained as a "super-user" in 2007 for the AP functions that we had used.
The most challenging part of the job is to maintain a positive outlook as we all know a number of us will be laid-off.

Main office assigned work
Most of the time project work was assigned by the head office that was in Denmark.
All projects had senior project managers one in us and one is Denmark. Most of the time presentations were done to both of the Senior PM's at once . The presentations included , time line of the project status of the project , problems , staff numbers and on budject

Worked for Maersk Ship Management during this time
A typical day started with email, mail, checking appointments and reservations internal and external for that day. Taking notes at meetings, answering phone, email correspondence. Daily tasks and ad-hoc requests from the manager filled my days.
During my time at MSM I was in charge of reorganizing the floorpan as more of our coworkers were let go due to company reorganizations. Calculating by law required workspace for the amount of employees left and the office furniture, computers, phones, etc. was something I had not been tasked with before. Prize negotiations with the janitorial department, based on square meter occupancy at MSM. This was a learning experience for me.
At the end of MSM in Rotterdam we were down to about 16 employees out of the 68.
Open floorpan with a comfortable, relaxed workplace culture. We all supported one another when needed.
The hardest part of this job was saying goodbye to coworkers, most enjoyable part was arranging reunions at external locations.
On December 31 2010 we were notified that Maersk Ship Management would be closing its doors in the Netherlands.
ProsGreat work atmosphere, high level of independence

Among the strongest ethical companies in the world that took some unfortunate turns over a decade
Great people with the few exceptions at the top...
Global organization is still one of the top companies, but the forwarding arm has had chronic issues for some time.

Poor Local Management, Less chances of Growth, Good Personal Work life balance. Management can yield better results if invested in local resources and give them better opportunity.

A transforming company
It is constantly evolving organization with restructuring to be a product centric organization. Lot of new opportunities is expected however, the pace of change is quite slow at this time.
