Fun Place to Work but Low Paying
This company is great to work for, but they seriously underpay their staff. Sales associates are always minimum wage, which makes it hard to keep a steady staff, which in turn leads to being short staffed quite often. It’s hard to juggle a life outside of retail in general, but in this company it’s even more of a difficult task.

Great place to work
I worked for Hot Topic in multiple roles for over 11 years. I can't say enough great things about the company. Awesome place to work with fun events. The company really cares about it's employees. Lots of room for advancement and competitive pay and benefits packages. Work life balance is great and volunteer hours paid.
ProsBest place to work EVER

A Fun-to-Work Job Where You Actually Had To Work!
A typical day at work for Hot Topic would begin with employees leaving their cellphones in the back room and putting on lanyards for identification, since there was no uniform. Everyone had their set job. The keyholders would control the jewelry boxes and dressing room; the Sales Representatives would greet customers, help them however we could, and keep the store organized and clean; the cashiers and managers would run the cash registers, also help in assisting the customers, and tell other employees what needs to be done.
From Hot Topic I learned that a job CAN be enjoyable even if you have to do a lot of work.
The management at Hot Topic was pretty laid-back but they weren't pushovers. They knew how to productively run the work place and make sure everything that needed to be done in a day was done and usually more.
My co-workers were awesome. Everyone gets along wonderfully and it makes for an enjoyable workplace.
The hardest part of the job was during the rush times when the store would get extremely busy.
The most enjoyable part of the job was working along-side people who shared my same interests and opinions on many different things.
Pros30 minute breaks every 5 hours.

Hot Topic: Great first job!
If you've had little to no retail experience, It is a fantastic learning experience in discipline customer service skills! Job advancement is the reason most people end up quitting, but the experience alone is worth the time!

Very enjoyable and open experience.
typical day is handling cash, and socializing with customers to find out their interests. I learned how to fold clothes, how to display clothes, close the store, etc. Management was amazing. The management team was always happy, talkative, friendly and was always helpful when necessary. The culture was great. their was always constant bonding with the coworkers and with thecustomers. Hardest part of the job was the amounts of hours given. Most enjoyable was working with an amazing staff in a very comfortable environment and making so many new friends with the guests. Would love to work here again.
ProsAmazing staff and work experience.

fun to work as long as you have good staff
was given a special job/title at my store. stockroom manager. basically worked the new merch coming in and managed the backstock/backroom. there are some really great managers/assistant managers but corporate puts way too much stress on them.
Prosstaff is like family, usually pretty laid back
Consunrealistic goals, lazy management

Out of this world
The people and environment is so different from the normal blue collar office. Everyone is dressed in comfortable clothing and at times they wear flip flops. The staff are fun and exciting to work with.
ProsNo business attire required.
ConsHigh turnaround.
