Excellent Work Environment, Technical Customer Service
Henkel has a corporate culture that is encourages a satisfied employee. It actively creates opportunity for career growth and is clear on its expectations are for day to day work and overall performance. It is a unique workplace that genuinely prioritizes customer satisfaction over immediate profit to cultivate long term relations. They are the ideal work smarter, not harder.
The culture is very not at all toxic, and hires are equally judged on how they'd fit in just as much as their performance.
However, from an engineering perspective, the work is not difficult. Most work done is record keeping and logging sales accounts across multiple platforms that are not in sync. Despite requiring ABET college graduates, most work can be achieved by a technically savy business major or someone with an STEM associates degree.
The higher ups have lost vision on trying to keep up with corporate trends instead of streamlining processes. Flashy Ipads are great but aren't very useful on a microsoft and SAP platform that don't bridge easily.
Sales force takes the weight of the company but doesn't get enough say in the direction.
Strong communication is demanded for this job as it is primarily managing accounts and relations by delivering expectations while balancing the supported sales representatives demands.
No one lasts longer than 3 years before transferring horizontally, promotion, or leaving limiting the tribal knowledge.
Henkel is not for the faint of heart. Priorities keep shifting, management only cares about themselves and if the numbers are not met, severance packages are the rule NOT the exception.
Henkel has a "forced rating system" whereby other managers around the country who do not even know your name get to rate you against other employees in your band. You need to have a manager who advocates for you which means you'd better "kiss up" to your supervisor for the support you need for you rating. Raises (minimal) are based on ratings so if you do not get the rating you deserve your pay takes a hit. HR is a joke, HR works for the company NOT you so you will not get a fair shake voicing any concerns.
Favoritism abounds so be forewarned. if not one of the favorites, your career can quickly be stunted. If your career is stalled and the numbers do not come in as promised to Corporate, you could be targeted in a "restructure", meaning "laid-off".
Lastly, be prepared to work long hours, especially if you are in the labs or Tech Service, you'll do quite a bit of traveling. Many times, the management team works remotely, a perk I guess if you're a manager.
You are fairly compensated when you start, BUT if you do not progress, your wages will stagnate. They have a bonus structure, but difficult numbers need to be hit to receive. There stock purchase program is a PLUS, purchase shares at 30% of market pricing, and it pays a decent dividend, but you need to work 2-years to be eli
ProsDecent benefits, stock purchase program (see below)
ConsManagement: Horrible, Lay-offs (frequent), minimal long term stability
It was decent place to work for years. It was a job. Management was not very progressive and they are very inconstant across the board. It is a tough business and innovation is key and they are getting away from what made this company great. There is management left over from previous ownership groups there for 20+ trying to adapt to the Henkel style with very little direction it seems what they expect. Henkel never made this big of a purchase of another company and had a very poor plan to implement into the Henkel structure. They were very ill prepared for the size of Sun. Management style is always changing and they seem to go with the flavor of the month approach and seem to think bringing in management from the Auto industry is the answer. When in fact they are clueless also. You can advance if your willing to suck up and try and become a favorite. Best advise i would give someone is that you if you go to work there do your job to the best of your abilities and keep to yourself. The average workers there are great people you will meet some of the nicest people in your life. The management people there like to play games with your lives and are not appreciative of the average worker. This plant needs to stay in its lane and do what it did best which is make budget minded detergents at low prices. Leave the premium market to the big boys and plants with established procedures and proven innovation.
ProsAverage line workers are great people to work with
ConsPoor management poor communication and direction everything is a secret.
I’ve been a mechanic there over 3 months. You don’t do pms, or really anything mechanical. You will only run the lines, clean and sweep floor. They can’t keep workers , that’s why they are always hiring. The line mechanic or operator mechanic, are treated poorly. You will not be respected, all you will be is a machine operator. You won’t get any training except on how to run the line and paperwork. They run short and are too lean. There is no benefit to being a mechanic, this is why most of the mechanics go to be just operators , they are not treated well. They pay structure is based on operators, nothing more for being a mechanic. You will work all the time 13 days in a row, 1 day off and than start again. The benefits while good are very very expensive, especially when you consider your hourly rate. Keep in mind they do pay every week , so if you take a job there which I would not recommend. They will take out benefits every week, which they don’t tell you till after you start. To put perspective on it, I’m paying about 500 per month for insurance. Management is horrible , they fail us every single day in every way, from the plant manager to HR, to the floor managers. The best advice I could give you , if you have a job I can assure you it’s not as bad as it is here keep looking. . I start my new job at a different company in a week.
ProsAbsolutely none
ConsThe way you are treated, cost of benefits, MANAGEMENT, never see your family or get time off
I believe Henkel as a cooperate company may be a good company to work for, however management, communication, human resources and safety are all issues at the Salisbury plant. Family and all activities outside of Henkel AI Salisbury are compromised, relationships and quality of life suffer tremendously. Operators are often misinformed, job scheduling and crew alignments are constantly changing, rules are bent as it benefits the company and management, safety is compromised to push production and no one is held accountable for their mistakes and actions so punishment is left to fall on operators as a whole. Management has lied to customers and then placed blame on operators resulting in pay cuts and job loss. Raises and advances in levels are misrepresented and held back even after reaching the time limit rule. Operators are being expected to take on more responsibility and preform higher level operations without receiving any change in rate of pay. Be sure to check pay checks each week, due to payroll accidently short changing hourly employees and it will take weeks to be reimbursed.
Prosgood healthcare plan (you'll need it after the chemical exposure!)
ConsScheduling, lack of communication, no accountability, safety issues, Family and home life suffer, health will decline
Site Manager is very uneducated in his profession.
The Site Manager that works at this particular site for Henkel needs many improvements to be able to functionally do his job on his own including management, how he communicates to his employees, how to properly discipline than overlook who he wants to. The Site Engineer at this site is his go to guy and ultimately he is doing 2 jobs in 1 unfortunately. The Site Manager relies on the Site Engineer to Responding to any questions, scheduling, how to communicate back to the customer, and within Henkel. Practically many things a manager should be taking care of. It is all coming from the Site Engineer. With my experience there, I have witnessed many situations of Biased activity such as favoritism between both the Site Engineer and Site Manager towards their employees. They both unprofessionally run the operation and try to run it at their own discretion. Unfortunately, This could be a very good place to grow a career at although at the same time, It is very difficult to work in a unprofessional and biased environment. This site does tend to have a high turn around rate because of these issues. Hope this helps somebody out in the decision of taking on this job.
ProsSalary Employee w/ overtime pay
Consbiased management/lack of professional managment!
Acheson Company was bought by Henkel Company while I was still there. The Henkel products are well known world wide.I enjoyed my time at this company
Working the second shift (3pm-11pm) started for me at 2pm. Converse with day shift supervisors going over problems and or products that needed attention. Check the schedules for needed changes or updates.Layed out work that was to be completed on the second shift or work that needed completed from the first shift. Learned alot on the different teams (Audit,Root Cause,Housekeeping) about the ins and outs of company management. I was able to work with most of the 80 or so workers at one time or another during my time at Henkel. The hardest part of my job was working a tight schedule with machines broke or disabled. I liked the challenge at Henkel Co. and the enjoyment of our accomplishments. I was offered a job in a different city down south. I didn't wish to move at the time for personal reasons.
Proswe were treated real well at henkel from management on down, pay was good as well as the benefits, the management worked with the management team real well, traded shifts if needed for emergencies.
Consthey closed and moved down south, i would still be working there, enjoyed the work and workplace.
Lack of advancement opportunities unless you are willing to work nights for a year minimum typically. Also seems nepotistic in that you need to be in with the right people and get very buddy buddy. Your work ethic or skill set will have little to do with advancement. Raises depend on who your boss is and again not at all work ethic or skill set. Don't even bother trying to learn new things for the sole purpose of pay advancement because you won't get it. You will just increase your work load. True skill or career advancement such as apprenticeships or education is either nonexistent or tremendously hard to acquire and complete. Pay is consistent and for most departments they rarely cut hours. Overtime is available only sometimes. PTO is done in a sketchy way as they primarily base it around an 8 hour work day, but all shifts are 12 hours. Most of the time production consists of just getting product out of the door instead of trying to run most efficiently or correctly and safely. They run things until they literally fall apart and can't be held together by duct tape or zip ties anymore. Can make certain lines a nightmare to run. This review is based off of years of experience at the plant in Bowling Green, KY.
An excellent place to work, internal promotions and advancements while continuing education
Began my career here at Henkel of America (formerly The Dial Corporation) as Administrative Assistant. As an Administrative Assistant, I assisted in setting up meetings and preparing Powerpoint Presentations and worked for various VP and Directors and their staff. While working in different capacities, I learned that if you learn the business and have good personal skills, it will open doors of opportunities. Our culture at Henkel was great, it was family oriented and community driven. Henkel offers lots of opportunities for advancement and did not hold their employees back from their dreams, the hardest thing is letting go, so that you can indeed move on to better opportunities within the company. I enjoyed working at Henkel because in my job, things were always changing and you were challenged. I like having challenges that keep you abreast of new ways and also of revealing ideas that sometimes do not work. My experience is that I have the best managers at Henkel of America (formerly The Dial Corporation).
ProsDiversity, Family/Community Committed and Internal Promotions
This company does have competitive pay, which is the only reason I still am here. Definitely runs off the good old boy system, if your not on the "list", you'll be denied advancement at every opportunity so it seems. Great ideas and hard work only get you more hard work while others get to just coast by doing the minimum and getting paid more. They take forever when it comes to the employee's needs/wants like hiring help or moving to a different position, but required overtime and to be on call at a moments notice. Certain people get to work desired hours while others have to work voluntold hours with little concern of what you may have going on in your life. No real structure when it comes down to pay scale and or knowledge based activities, your expected to just know the job and get paid what someone sitting in an office feels you should get paid. Working conditions are brutal to say the least, your constantly out in the elements and working with dangerous chemicals. Teamwork is a joke, specific training is minimal. Best part of the day is clocking out to go home.
ProsShort distance from my house
ConsI would gladly leave if I could find a job doing anything else for the same pay

(vide CV no site www.linkedin - Valter roda).
Obrigado pela oportunidade.

What is the most stressful part about working at Henkel?
Asked Nov 21, 2016
Good people try to get jobs there and can't because of the stupid little tests they give to see if your quilifyed to work there! I tried to take that test and the man on the speaker talked so fast you couldn't answer one question til he was througing out another one! This is how they determine if you get the job or not! Really missing out on a lot of good employees because of this!

I can only speak to the salt lake plant. It was long shifts, with very little structure, very little training, and very little actual feedback, or communication
