Overall Reviews at HC One
1.0
A company that buys care homes and strips staff and is not kind
The home I worked at was a lovely place that was sold to HC-one. Standards dropped. Staff levels slashed. the company put profit before residents. The company has bribed staff to do reviews with a prize draw!!!!
ConsShort staffed, support team no support. Money before residents

A great place to be!
This is my first time working within the care industry and I'm really enjoying it. The company are focused on providing the very best in 'kind' care to their Residents and Relatives, which is a given, however they also ensure that the happiness and job satisfaction of their employees is paramount. Happy worker, happy workplace.
The support office is innovative and encourages career progression through all sectors of the departments.
ProsGreat career progression opportunities.

Great place to work
I've been working for HC-one for less than a year . You get class room training along with online training and assessments.
The first week or so I shadowed 2 work colleagues until I had my manual handling completed .
The care home I work in I cannot fault , from day one I have been made welcome and feel like part of the team .
I get on well with all staff members and they have been there to help me every step of the way to get to where I am today .
With the current coronavirus situation we are really pulling together to keep our residents safe , the managers are regularly having meetings with us keeping us updated on any information and are showing their support to us . I enjoy the work I do and it is very rewarding working with the residents.
The only down side is the pay which is minimum wage I think all care workers should get at least the national living wage especially at the moment when we are putting ourselves at risk with coronavirus. And like many others are trying to support our own families.

Feel very supportive by both managers and colleagues
I have worked for Hc one for around 18 months and although it took time to find my feet, I look forward to going to work to make the lives of our residents better.
Senior managers have been very supportive and I can always ask for help if needed

Was previously Southern Cross Health care. Pay is not great for Administrators and very little employment benefits. Hard work with little support. Poor work life balance

Ridiculous
I just left working with hc-one drummohr this week. The home is ridiculous. The management are a waste of time and there is constant back stabbing and bad mouthing.
They say you have to use your own initiative they then micro manage you to death.
This is by far the worst company i have worked for and i would never recommend them to anyone. They are the most untrustworthy, thieving, backstabbers i have worked with. This is not just domestivs and carers but also the managers.
Total waste of time working here.
ProsNone
ConsStaff, pay, management, everything.

Requires improvement
Hc-one I feel.disapointed with due to lack of support from management above any concerns staff have appears to be brushed under the carpet. You never appear to have an answer the assist with any problems

Great training if you want it
HC-One offer a good training and development program for Carers (and for Nurses) and some of the homes also do a Nursing Assistant career path which means carers can earn more per hour and get a transferable qualification slightly higher than that of a senior carer. It can be quite quick to work through the program depending on what home you are at and if you have a supportive manager - can be as little as 6 months. It fits nicely with the day to day duties you would expect as a carer in a nursing home and you get to spend a bit more time with the nurses (who aren't as aloof as they can sometimes come across!!) and of course with the residents. It makes it easier to be able to support residents more fully rather than having to leave and get a nurse for some of the simple, common sense tasks, that most carers know they could do if only they were allowed to - so the all round relationships are much better.
ProsTraining, residents, nice atmosphere

Terrible company
Management know there is a heirarchy and do nothing ! Toxic staff, some staff treat new starters like dirt....bullying at a premium, cant believe head office havnt been in touch with staff who leave/walk out of the job to find out reasons why. Avoid this company

the most awfull place to work
i have worked in care homes and hospitals over the past 25 years as a chef
i must say i have never worked for a company like h c one the management of this care home are all bent do not care about there staff
forcing staff to work long hours very under staffed due to the homes bad management complete cover ups very large turn over of staff not interested in waste costing the lots company lots of money wasted money if you report a serious heath and safety issue above your manger head because they don’t care the you are bullied constantly and extreme accusations are made about you that are untrue

Care assistant
At hc one I was day staff for a year and a half and night staff for a year and a half. During the day I assisted the residents to get washed and dressed, so that they were ready for the day.after that I would ask them what they would like for their breakfast and what drink they would like. When they answered I went off and made them what they ask me. All staff did this until everybody was up and had something to eat.

I love my job the best one I’ve had less stressful than being a pharmacy technician and I love to interact with the residents sometimes I think we could do with bank staff in my department but apart from that everything is good

Work and learn
Working with people from different backgrounds and their thoughts has teached me so much about the world as well as how to communicate with people from different countries, cultures, religion etc. As well as the people I work for which are people from different age, religion, mental and physical state.

Nice company but still had small business mindset
Really nice people to work with here but when anything suggested on updating a few areas, the response was that its 'not broken so don't fix it' attitude. This is a shame as they have increased in size dramatically and require the enterprise type mindset to progress.
ProsFlexible working

a good company to work for
A typical day at work starts with check voicemail messages and emails and responding to any query, questions I have.
We have set days for invoicing so this may take place. cash allocation takes place every day and when completed this is filed away. Throughout the day telephone calls will be taken and made for queries, chasing overdue payments and also taking payments by credit or debit cards. A big part of the day is chasing overdue accounts with the service users families or local authorities by phone or letter.
I get a lot of job satisfaction when you see the fruits of your labour ie payments being made that were overdue etc coming into the company.
I work really well under pressure and prefer to be busy than quiet.
I get along with my co workers on a professional and personal level.
My frustrations and the hardest part of the job is when management don't back you up.

Wouldn't recommend
My time there (6years) wasnt the best, not set shifts, one week I'd work 5 days then have 1 day off and then be back for 2 and that's how they was worked based on hours not days, my pay was for under 25's, I dont agree with the company doing this as i worked as hard as someone over the age of 25 and had all the same Bill's to pay, staffing levels wasnt good, not enough staff for the residents hardly any activities going on and the managers, I was the 6 years and had around 7-8 managers in that time, some was brilliant but others wasnt. I was also pushed onto nights even though I asked not to as it was making me ill, b12 deficiency trouble sleeping no home life, it caused my relationship to breakdown.
