Overall Reviews at Fry's Electronics

Best Electronic retail ever.
Frys Electronics is probably one of the best companies I worked for. They are driven to the excellence of service to customers as well as employees. Management is always watching out for hard-working employees and develop them to succeed and build a career within the company. If I had a chance to work for them again, I will. The only downside I have experienced is forgetting to clock out.
ProsThere are a lot of opportunities for growth within the company.
ConsI cant think of anything that would be considered negative. If you are a hard worker

Managementdid not care for older workers
Not a nice place for older people, they only let people in their 20' and 30'' become supevisors or managers, easier to control. If your older than 50 forget it, they don't like you.
ProsWorked with a lot nice people, several cultures mixed together
ConsExpensive health-care, the young supers in their 20's hated to give vreajs

It's been awhile (2012-2015) but what I remember it's a decent "first job" experience
Fry's was not my first job, however I like tech and computers so I figured it would have been paradise for me. In reality the discounts are based on profit of an item and limited for an entire year. Cashiers are paid by total amount of items rung up + minimum wage. Which can lead to some cherry-picking of customers. When I was there Loss Prevention was cut extremely and cashiers are now handling most forms of returns. Cashiers also handle janitorial duties. What made me stay were a few co-workers turned friends. Management only cared about unobtainable numbers and sales is pretty much dog-eat-dog world
ProsThe tech, employee turned friends
ConsManagement including home office, no fixed schedule, unreachable sales goals

profit driven and people on commissions with a lot of dishonesty
people were selling other people's products even when the customer already paid for the item so the person bought the item would come to get the item their item was gone due to someone else having sold it in order to get the commission. Management did not care about the people only money.

Great co workers but questionable management
The environment is friendly and active. Some of the best parts about this job are working with the genuine people, although the management all act like everything is a bother. Lack of adequate scheduling and helpful support lead to stressful situations.

Hated it
Poor management put together with a bad pay set up makes for unhappy workers. The store itself is great but during my time of working there was awful.

very fun and flexible schedul.
Managers are willing to work with your school schedule it's very diverse and fun place to work. The hardest part of the job is that is that high turnover and for some departments and positions , there is no formal training.
Conssales positions are all commission base, no company culture

I started out as a Computer's Dept Merchandiser. I actually enjoyed doing the work. Down stock freight. TSR the Isles, and isle schematics. Work I can do myself and not have to rely one others. I even learned a great deal about new tech people look for. And a lot more info about computer hardware. Management is pretty good. You can ask for a day off and they will actually try and work it out. You aren't late until 10 min over. The only thing that makes it difficult is the Corporate makes dumb decisions. The merged the merchandisers with the receiving. Well that sucked. Just adds even more work for me. Just imagine, having 2-4 merch's and 1 Merch Sup in each dept at all times. Now there are only 4 Merch's and 3 Sups for the entire store. And these new sups don't do anything to even help.

Questions And Answers about Fry's Electronics

Why did you leave your job at Fry's Electronics?
Asked Mar 15, 2017
Just plain needed more. Worked as a part time, asked for full. Request went unanswered for a couple months, so I moved on.
Answered Nov 29, 2018
Found something better
Answered Mar 17, 2018
What would you suggest Fry's Electronics management do to prevent others from leaving?
Asked Mar 15, 2017
Pay more money..
Answered Nov 6, 2018
Every complaint from the employee's stems from a decision made at the corporate level. It feels like turnover and attrition is due to store management, but 9 times out of 10 it is a policy that is beyond their control and they are in no position to offer a better solution.

Is shaving required?
Asked Jan 22, 2017
Had everything from a 3 inch beard to a mustache to clean-shaven and everything in-between in 5 years. Just don't have a turbo-nerd neck-beard and look "unprofessional" and you'll be fine.
Answered Nov 26, 2017
At the time I was employed there you had to be "groomed." You could not look sloppy.
Answered Oct 29, 2017
Why is the dress code almost a suit and tie? Why it gotta be Men in Black?
Asked Jan 16, 2017
Slacks and Polo
Answered Dec 13, 2017
Fry's has finally evolved and changed the dress code to a polo shirt and slacks, or if you prefer the white shirt and tie with slacks that option is still on the table. Most of the positions require quite a bit of manual labor and the dust collects overnight basically, so it's a nice change to be comfortable in the uniform.
