Good for what it is
When I started at Fred Meyer in 2005 it was a truly great place for a me to work. They understood and were flexible with my schedule as a mom wanting a job that allowed my husband or I to be home with our kids when the other parent worked. The pay was above minimum wage and the compensation and benefits were very generous.

An industry going down hill
When I started in retail 16 years ago you could have a mortgage, stay at home spouce and child. Now it is difficult to support a single individual on the journeyman pay that a grocery clerk makes, Wages rarely keep up with inflation much less cost of living, Medical benefits are too expensive to use and they obviously don't pay supervisors enough because everyone seems so Jaded all the tine
Prosno requirements
ConsSlow wage growth, nobody cares about moral

Good for a temporary job. Don't stay here too long. Follow your dreams
I was employed at Fred Meyer for nearly 2 years and held 3 different positions. I learned a lot there but it is best to not be there for too long. As long as you leave on good terms you are eligible for rehire there. Follow your dreams if you can. Fred Meyer can suck the life out of you.
Pros1 hour lunches, holiday pay, discount on groceries. They (generally) promote from within
Cons10 minute breaks instead of 15

Very active and fun place to work. Great associates and customers.
At Fred Meyer I learned a few new skills. Was able to be helpful in five different positions on the Front End to help customers to have the best experience. The team members there are amazing and makes it a great place to work.

It is a good place to work if you're a hard worker
People think Fred Meyer is easy work but its time-consuming, high-paced, stressful, and demanding all at once. Hard work is necessary but worth it due to pay and benefits.

Amazing coworkers and supervisors
Coworkers and supervisor was very helpful, understanding, and a whole lot of fun. Some customers are difficult, but most are very kind. My supervisor was very understanding when it would come to taking a few days off from work for family occasions.

Fredmeyer
A typical day at work would include loading and unloading pallets, and stocking shelves. After 7am i would handle any customers needs. Fred Meyer was a great environment to work in. My co-workers were great people to work with. The most enjoyable part of the job was to set up isles and decorate shelves.
Prosemployee discount.great coworkers
ConsUnion based, no opportunity for advancement, poor management

Questions And Answers about Fred Meyer

If you were to leave Fred Meyer, what would be the reason?
Asked Mar 25, 2017
You want a job with better career growth opportunities .
Answered Dec 8, 2020
I left because of management. They have no wiggle room to reward people who do well and have no wiggle room to punish those who don’t due to it’s union structure. You will be treated and paid the same wether you come to every scheduled shift or call-out for every scheduled shift. Work ethic doesn’t matter.
Answered Aug 7, 2020
On average, how many hours do you work a day at Fred Meyer?
Asked Feb 14, 2017
12 to 16 hours a day... there’s never enough time in the day, I can’t recall the last day there wasn’t multiple sick calls for any given department in the store. It just makes you plain sad and emotionless.
Answered Mar 8, 2021
As grocery overnight freight we worked anywhere from 8-12 hour shifts. (You can not leave until the work is finished or you face punitive consequences) Any other department is 4-8 hour shifts

What questions did they ask during your interview at Fred Meyer?
Asked Jun 20, 2016
Did I have transportation, was I self motivated.and past experience, cash handling, customer service.
Answered Jan 29, 2020
It was different every time . The first interviewed was my coworker hired at the same time they asked her why she thought she would be a good fit. There is no right answer but I would suggest you don't lie or make up senarios because they want as real answers as possible. for me the questions were very different they were quite interested to know if I had any experience working retail I said no they then asked if faced with certain choices what would my decisions be again no right or wrong answers just answer as truthfully as possible

My interview was very quick and simple, took about 10 minutes and only talked about work history and availability. The hiring manager was asking the questions and the other manager listened in. They liked my availability so I got the job on the spot.
