Worst place I have ever worked.
Revolving door! All new management in the past year none of it good. Radio's on bus are terrible. Management are not drivers and will lie to you to keep you out driving 10 plus hours a day.
ProsPaid training
ConsTough to get the vacation you want or even just a few hours off when needed.

Busy, Professional Environment
Contracted by NCTD for Bus Operations. Good company. Hired on as Admin Asst but moved into Payroll because of skill set required to do the job. Typical day is busy between computer work, handling walk-ins and phone calls asking about payroll or benefit information or handling accounts payable for various vendors. Work place culture is easy going but professional. Very task oriented on daily and weekly basis.

Was always to busy
First Transit is run by people with a short term goal. You either produce consistently or your history. I choose to stay in the business out respect for myself and others.
ProsWith the client only
ConsNo healthcare to speak of...

A good job if you love to drive and you love the metro area!
Driving bus is enjoyable because I love to drive. It can be a lonely job because you never get to know your fellow co-workers. You are always driving! The clients are very challenging and interesting. They become a part of your life very easily. The communication in this company is about the worse it can get. Management does not even know what is going on. There is a big disconnect between Metro Counsel and Metro Transit.

Decent Paying Job
First Transit has good competitive wages for their employees. They also attempt to be flexible with availability. The reservations department handles about 400 calls per day. This department is where the connection to the clients who use the services begin. They also have a dispatch department and on sight safety managers and driver trainers.
Prosflexible with hours
Consexpensive healthcare

What is the work environment and culture like at First Transit?
Asked Jun 29, 2016
I worked at the location in Tulsa, OK. Do not work there! Its great at first, then it switches. Everyone gossips about each other. It's basically like working in a soap opera. Unless you are family or great friends with a current employee or manager, dont expect to stay there for long. Whatever you do, do not get injured on the job. The old buses 18 and down always have issues. Some that cause you to switch to a new bus 3 or 4 times. Which if you work the Lift program, will cause you to run late. When they say "If you cant do it safely, dont do it" thats a lie. The turn over for this location is high. A lot of people quit or get fired for insane reasons. The hours are terrible. Don't expect to get 40 hours a week. They bid on routes. Seniority gets first choice, then family. It doesnt matter how long you've been there. Dont expect bonus safety pay. Hazard pay was a joke, they made it a bonus check and taxed it. The managers at this location are CROOKED. Especially Scott and Gaysha. The Union rep doesnt really care unless you are friend or family. Their point system is ridiculous. Do not sign up for overtime hours for the weekend unless you can absolutely follow through. No matter if family or medical emergency. You will get a write up. If you file a report against another employee, they will tell them who did it and what the report says. If they offer a sign on bonus or a referral bonus, dont expect to get it. And they will be clueless as to what you are talking about. Just dont work here. No one wants to be there, but can't afford to quit.

Plum PA dispatchers talks down to all employees over the radio. Constant yelling battles in the offices between drivers and others. Complete lack of communication between the office people towards each other and the fellow drivers. Many calls off/walk off/or just simply quits. This location doesn't know how to run a buisness.

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at First Transit? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Jul 24, 2016
First I did an application on Indeed, a week later they sent me an invitation to interview, they hired me at the interview and after told me when to come take my drug test.
Answered Jan 15, 2020
2-3 Weeks. Could be more if you fail the CDL permit test. Could be less like 1 week if you already have a CDL. I submitted and application online. Received a phone. call 3-4 days later from a recruiter on a Monday. We scheduled an over the phone interview for the next day Tuesday. After the phone interview I was offered employment and was told to come in the following day Wednesday with Driver’s License, Social Security Card, and to fill out the background check authorization. After that I was scheduled for training class the following Monday. After training we all were given 8 days to get our DOT physical, drug test, and CDL permit. You become Full-time the following Tuesday from your Monday training class day, but training day is your starting date.
