Leadership needs training
The BOP is stable employment and the line staff is family-like. The leadership needs tremendous work. Line staff are not promoted based on their skillset/merit, as it should be but instead promoted based on personal feelings. The agency would be stellar, but its downfall is its lack of diversity and training.

Great place to start in federal Law Enforcement
Great place to work. The best run Law Enforcement agency I've worked for. Pay could be better for the work, but if you're looking to get your for in the door with the feds, this is it! 6C (Law Enforcement/Firefighter) retirement. Great federal benefits.

Executive Staff
The largest problem with the Federal Bureau of Prisons is some executive Staff, Wardens and Associate Warden. They come in with their own agenda's and do not listen to the home steaders, those are staff that started at 1 institution and will retire there. Those staff know the inmates and the institution the best and know what it takes to keeping the institution running safe. Because, they know what inmates are associated with which gangs and how they operate.

Easy entry into federal services
This is an easy way to get into federal service, particularly federal law enforcement. This agency has great benefits and is best suited long-term for individuals with relatively low formal education and/or training. For those with high formal education and/or training, this is a great entry into the public job market but best served as a stepping stone to other opportunities in the private sector or other agencies. It does offer the opportunity for almost unlimited advancement for those who are able to navigate a completely political, "good 'ol boy" culture.

Great place to work!!!
Best job ever!!! Support from bosses and staff was second to none. Loved working in the Central Office and Grand Prairie, Texas. While stationed at Central Office I was able to travel to institutions around the country and found it to be like visiting communities of brothers and sisters.

Excellent career choice with great retirement package.
A career in the Department of Justice is the best thing I could have ever done in my life. It pays well and has led to a great life for me and my family. I did not relocate during my career, but many have. The freedom to move around the country is a great piece of mind and provides even greater advancement opportunities. You can easily make 80-100G in the BOP during your career.

Good Start
The BOP gave me a great start to my career in Occupational Safety & Health. It has excellent training and requirement guidelines for its safety & health employees.

Tedious
It is a prison setting. Nothing about the job is fun beyond your coworkers. Advancement is based on who you know not what you know. Good chance to move around at the governments leisure if you so choose.
