Downsized
They saved money when they got rid of me. And others that went from one area to another I would be there now if it weren’t for the COO. I would love to work with the others

NOT the place to "plant roots"
CSX was horrible. If you are a female - forget it. It's the "Good Ole Boys Club", You'll never succeed. EVER! Stay clear! If you aren't part of the club - you won't advance at all.

Horrible place to work
Railroad jobs where once a great job to have. Great benefits, great pay, great retirement.
Has devolved into a place that has incompetent management because they cannot keep decent managers.
The only job that tries to fire you as soon as they hire you.
Morale is horrible.
On call 24/7. Work all holidays including Thanksgiving and Christmas.
No sick time.
Discipline if you or a family member gets ill and you need to take time off.
Get called for work. Work 10-12 hours, get put in a roach motel for 18-20 hours. Get called for another 10-12 hour train home only to be home for 12-14 hours to go do it all again.
Average 38-42 hours away from home per trip, only home 12-14 hours between trips.
No family life. You will not be home nights or weekends or holidays. Will not see your kids grow up.

Very Flexible Hours
We were offered swing shifts. Depending on company demands we were required to work late shifts and long hours. We also had mandatory over time when Receivables numbers were in a large deficit.
ProsFlexible Hours
ConsMandatory Late night shifts without advanced notice

Stale Workplace
Most of the time people keep to themselves, you are just there to do your own thing at CSX. If you never wanted to talk to anyone, you wouldn't have to. It's a very relaxed area of workplace.
Prosstress free environment
Conslow job security, not much motivation

Horrible for family life
While the pay is decent, and the benefits are good. They do not make up for the rest of the company. CSX is ran on fear. They are out to fire you the day after they hire you. Management will lie to make themselves look good. They could care less what happens to the employees.

Consmanagement, no set schedule, constant fear

A good place to work.
CSX was a good place to work. The benefits and salary were very competitive compared to other railroads. The retirement retirement benefits are the best.

Poor Company to work for
Poorly managed. Upper management only cares about themselves. No security there anymore. They don't care about their employees.

Once the caller call you for work, you have only have 2 hours to get to the job no matter what you are going.
ProsPlenty of over time
ConsNo rest and short of rest
