Example Interview Questions

In this article, we explore some common crew member interview questions and sample answers to help you prepare for your interview.

What is the best way to improve your skills as a Crew Member?

This is a good opportunity to show your knowledge of the industry and what you have learned through your career. A good answer should demonstrate that you are a hard-working person who is always looking for ways to improve.

Example answer: "A Crew Member is always learning new skills, and I am constantly seeking out new opportunities to better myself. This year, I attended a leadership workshop and learned important skills in managing team members. I plan to use the skills I learned at the workshop to better my own team."

How do you measure success as a Crew Member?

Hiring Managers want to know how you measure success. You should describe your top 3 accomplishments in previous jobs and why you selected them. There is no standard way to approach this question, but you should include past examples to demonstrate that you know what this job entails.

Example answer: "My main success metrics are customer satisfaction, food quality and customer safety. In previous roles, I've surveyed customers to find out how likely they would be to return and I compiled the data by activity. I use this information to identify gaps in our quality control and training. I also like to create a 30-day plan to ensure that employees are treating our customers with the care and respect they deserve. These metrics are the best indicators of success for my role."

How do you evaluate the performance of a Crew Member?

The interviewer wants to find out how you go about managing people and whether you have performance-management skills. Your answer should reflect a deep understanding of what constitutes good performance and how to identify it. You can use a personal example to demonstrate your points.

Example answer: "I evaluate performance based on outcomes. Outcome should be the foundation of all performance management and development. When I conduct performance reviews, I focus on the outcome for the customer. I also look at how well the crew member completes tasks related to the goal. I look at how well they handle conflict and how well they communicate with their teammates. I also consider how well they work as part of a team and whether they are reliable and consistent."

What do you do to motivate Crew Members?

Motivation is an important aspect of Crew Member job performance. A crew member who feels that his or her contribution is important will be more motivated and therefore more productive. Provide examples of how you motivate your team and explain why you implement those methods.

Example answer: "I make sure that all of my Crew Members feel that they are part of a team and that they have a role to play in the team's success. I know that simple praise can go a long way. When my Crew Members work hard, I try to acknowledge them at that moment. I also find that performance-based rewards, such as a raise or promotion, can also be a powerful motivator."

What is your approach to resolving conflict with a Crew Member?

This question allows the interviewer to see how you handle conflict resolution. You should explain how you listen to both sides of an argument and how you seek to compromise without compromising the quality of your work. Make sure to provide an example of how you handle conflict resolution.

Example answer: "I don't let conflict stop me from working. I work with both parties to find a solution and understand both sides of the argument. I treat the problem with respect, as it could happen to me next. Once I understand the problem, I mitigate it with workarounds or process adjustments."
