Management preaches values, but, in practice, management will not support you.
If you are a hard worker but do not belong in a click or favorite group, you are toast. You have to practically kiss behinds to be even looked at. The only way this will work for you is if you are an "out of sight, out of mind" type, perhaps you will have a chance to belong and prosper there.
ProsGreat benefits
ConsYou have to kiss behinds to move up.

Nonsupportive Work environment.
There seemed to be favoritism and lots of discrimination based on gender and ethnicity. Managers would frown on leave requests. The facility was filthy and crawling with mice.

It’s terrible. Everything that they tell you in your interview is opposite of what really happens there.
It’s a terrible place to work. Entirely profit driven. All employees are replaceable and they’ll tell you that whenever they get a chance. Mandatory overtime, all of the time, and if you refuse, your fired. Your home/personal life does not matter to them. You are replaceable.
ProsNone
ConsThey are a “for profit” private prison and real estate company. People don’t matter, only profits do.

You learn what not to do working there
The job itself isn’t bad the staff is the problem inmates can only do what you allow them to and with that being said the staff are lazy and complacent if those inmates wanted to start a riot they could if they wanted to take the prison they could do that 2 in the many years I’ve worked I never experienced anything like that before and it’s ridiculous to me
ProsMoney
ConsHard to get relief for restroom or to go home

Challenging Montana corrections facility
CoreCivic is a great company to work for. They care for their employees, promote from within, and as a nation-wide corporation have opportunities for growth and advancement in many areas. Corrections can be challenging for anyone, but with the provided training in an academy for officers, it prepares you for the unexpected.
ProsMedical benefits offered, competitive wages
ConsRequired overtime, long shifts

Workplace
I worked for the company for over ten years. It was previously called Corrections Corporation of American. The company's vision and mission lined up well with the employee expectancy. The overall goal was to provide a safe and secure environment for both staff and offenders. This was achieved daily.
ProsGreat pay and bonuses
ConsWorking during lockdowns

Absolutely loved my job here
It was one of the best jobs I've ever had! The company it's self is awesome but the people that I worked with were amazing! I had the most awesome boss in the whole world. He was just the best! The hours were good, pay was great and we also were offered benefits. I can not say enough great stuff about my time there even tho it was short.

Productive place to work
My typical day at work was very busy and well managed. There were assigned task and the supervisors did an excellent job of delegating all the duties fairly.

Overall a decent company.
I was a part of upper management. There were definitely opportunities for all staff to advance and promote through the ranks. At times there were some individuals in high ranking positions who had no business in such a position as they were highly unprofessional and lacked integrity. The health benefits were good. Salary was competitive.
Prosfree lunches
Consstaff shortage

My experiences...
Great and interesting workplace with festive holiday meals. I had the opportunity to view people from all over the globe and learned that our only differences were culture. Employee separation made the job difficult. Overall, I wouldn't change the experiences for anything.
ProsGreat incentives
ConsOften overworked

Questions And Answers about CoreCivic

What is the work environment and culture like at CoreCivic?
Asked Jun 15, 2016
Racism fueled and oriented. If you don't fit into a very very specific clique your terminated under questionable motives. You are expected to never ever leave. Staff is that a 100% turn around so more often than not your relief will quit and they will force you to work a second or 3rd shift. They will literally lock you in there like you are an inmate and not allow you to leave or answer any form of communication they will ignore you and trap you in a housing unit
Answered Nov 23, 2020
Diverse, satisfying, and full-filling

What is the most stressful part about working at CoreCivic?
Asked Apr 1, 2017
The management. They do not have your back, they will not help when asked, you are completely and utterly at the mercy of 124 convicted felons. If for some reason your partner isn't paying attention at all times (lack of sleep, inmates distracting them on purpose) you might just get dragged into the showers or a cell and, well, use your imagination.
Answered Jun 30, 2021
The most stressful part about working at core civic is knowing that you are nothing more than meat into a grinder. It is not a matter of if you will get assaulted it is when. And then there knowing that you are 100% entirely utterly alone. If a situation should arise and you call for help no one will come. But the absolute most stressful thing is you are told on day one to report everything that you see but if You file reports you get terminated. It is as if they want that prison to be ran by inmates And their staff to wonder if they are going to make it home to their families that day

What is the interview process like at CoreCivic?
Asked Jun 20, 2016
The interview process is laughable at best they will literally hire anyone with a heart beat. 90% of my days I would look around and the only correctional officer insight would be a 90 year old that never got out of her chair, Much less help you in an incident
Answered Nov 23, 2020
Alot of problem solving scenarios, Awareness based, and assessing a quick but efficient Deescalation scenarios. Understanding respect and authority is very important. Along with the safety of the officer, Facility, and inmates.

How are the working hours at CoreCivic?
Asked Aug 30, 2016
It's supposed to be 12 hour days, 14 days a month, give or take. What happens though, is nobody wants to work here, so it ends up being more like 16 or more hours per day, 7 days a week. And literally every Corecivic facility is severely understaffed, but somehow it continues to be a problem, because despite all the comments they make on all the negative reviews, they obviously have no intentions on fixing the problem, so long as they make their money.
Answered Sep 9, 2021
Just all depends. You could work 8, 12, or 16 hours. Then their are special posts where you could work a simple 8 hour shift, Monday thru Friday.
