Most enjoyable part of my job
The inconsistency is a blessing and a curse here. Nothing stays the same, but this has taught me how to adjust very quickly and also I’ve been able to learn quite a few tasks other than my job description which may help me moving forward.

Easy to advance if you want, but the management is trash
I was able to get promoted in the company but I didn't have enough support in order to do the job I needed to do, managerial support was trash they encourage a highly competitive and cutthroat work environment. Those that steal customers from other people got rewarded, and the manager encouraged us to lie and do whatever it took to get money from people's pockets. They actually have full-on training sessions to teach you how to not say certain important key details (like interest rates) to customers so they don't choose not to buy. Everybody that comes into the doors is to be considered as a dollar sign and not as a person. When you become a specialist or any kind of manager position your pay stays the same as when you entered basically and you get an incentive saying that at the end of the month if your department in the whole store is doing good you get a bonus. But if your department is doing well and the store sales aren't you don't get anything.
ProsAbility to get promoted in the company
ConsOnly store managers get good pay, department managers only get paid if the store is doing well, promises not to be a cutthroat sales environment but it is

It was good place to get experience working front desk but low pay.
Low pay front desk job. Not the best management. Not a good place for students because of lack of schedule flexibility. It was an okay job. I would recommend to work here only if you are trying to get experience working front desk but I would not stay longer than a year. There is better paying front desk jobs.
Pros1 hr lunch breaks

Conns
Awesome place to work. You work with a team of sales associates that become like family. You get help all across the floor. From cashiering to quacking inventory even to close the customer. Lots of incentives and bonuses. Overall outstanding place to work

Worst decision Ive ever made save youre time and keep looking
I worked at the Conns in Denton and let me tell you KEEP LOOKING! Do not waste your time with this conpany! They make you huge promises that they cant keep but somehow its your fault. They promise you commission paychecks around $2000 but with how the economy is going you will definitely get hourly checks that are around $800. When I tried to talk to my manager about my low paychecks she suggested I stay all day and make more phone calls. We had no one to call and if they had it their way you would be there everyday open to close. Management is horrible the general manager plays favorites and the assistant manager Alex has no idea about what hes doing and will constantly badger you. All in all this job is not worth the hassle.
ProsOne hour lunches
ConsHorrible management, not enought money, its always somehow your fault for not making your qoutes and they play favorites

Good Job if you don't have a family
Typical day is coming in making 30 phone calls. Then waiting for customers to come in. Some managers micro manage some are relaxive. The hardest part about the job is working on holidays.

Questions And Answers about Conn's Home Plus

What is the work environment and culture like at Conn's Home Plus?
Asked Jul 26, 2016
They can care less about their workers. They are extremely racist, so if you are black or Hispanic, you will not be promoted ever and they will never give you a raise. It is a dead end job for minorities. They expect a lot of work for wages barely over minimum wage. I can't wait to see how they will react, once minimum wage is raised to 15.00 per hour. Go Biden!

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Conn's Home Plus a better place to work?
Asked Jul 16, 2018
Institute fair work conditions, allow rotating saturdays off instead of demand all Sat be worked, provide consistent management expectations, improve benefits and reduce cost of said benefits, improve quality of furniture sold, generate more transparency in the loan process - basically, everything.

You will stand a better chance of getting benefits that actually cover medical, dental, vision from buying a lottery ticket than this company. You will massively overpay for a health plan that isn't worth the actual printer ink it took to print. Also the upper management has calculated a systematic way of deliberately pushing down the hourly rate of a sales person by making them stay 2 & 1/2 to 3 hours after the store closes which reduces their hourly rate, when you go on vacation, you will not be compensated correctly and your paycheck will suffer. If you do have to use FMLA the management will pressure you and push you to disregard doctors orders so they can keep their store floor flooded so no one makes any money. They frequently take away days off and often schedule meetings at other stores with little to no advance notice. So if you have children or a family member you help on a day off, you will become an unreliable source of help for them. They expect you to allow your family to go to the hospital alone so you can attend a washer and dryer info meeting or a TV educational seminar. There is no benefit to having a company who tells you that you have 2 days off, and one day before your day off assigns you to be completely across town at an unplanned meeting. All other types of business you have a set schedule, but with this company, you never know when you work till the last minute. And if they put out a schedule 2, 3, or even 4 weeks in advance, it means nothing. They'll demand you show up on your day off for some type of meeting. You will not be allow to clock in for that meeting so you will not get paid, and you will not get drive pay at all. But if you do not go, you will be disciplined. If you are on vacation and they hold a meeting, you will be called into that meeting and be expected to show up. Again, you will not be allow to clock in and not be paid for the mileage. They often allow people to come to work and not clock in and take sales ups. This reduces the amount of sales of the people who are clocked in. When the person who is not clocked in writes a sales order, all they have to do is call in a time clock override. This company will allow anyone to show up on their vacation and/or day off and pull this stunt because it drives down more wages, thus saves them money when people take vacations (that their definition of benefits). The biggest benefit is that if you make a mistake and the cashier doesn't collect the right amount of money, (regardless if you get a managers override or a corporate override), (regardless if it is for $5.00 or $500.00) this company will take it out of your check. This company is the most dishonest company I've ever seen when it comes to taking money from its employees. I've seen homeless and section 8 benefits look better than this company offers its store employees. But to its board of directors and executives, they get the real benefits. I wonder if this CEO has ever thought of just how vile his employee think of him after working here for 6 months to a year. But then again, you can tell he just doesn't give 2 cents. You have to sign a paper that you are able to lift 25 to 50 pounds but yet they provide their sales staff with no safety belts for your back and no protection for your body while moving heavy refrigerators. And if you wait for someone to help you, you'll wait for hours and not sell a thing all day. I've seen many employees hurt themselves trying to move things because they underpay their porters and drastically they can't keep them. One day someone is really going to get hurt and then the only benefit is going to be that Conns Home Plus will blame it one them instead of their system that actually is flawed with disregard for employee protection. And finally, we were forced to sign a paper that stated if we were getting robbed that we as employees would be required to fight back. As we read this, all of us in the stores laughed and signed it. You let someone try and rob one of these stores and we'll stand completely out of his or her way and tell the courts why we showed him who had the safe combination. This was an insult that was so stupid and uncalled for that it was another example of this company's foolishness when promoting its culture of benefits.

If there's no commission, how are bonuses figured?
Asked Nov 18, 2016
In Arizona, the base rate was $18.00 @ hour, with less than a 3 week notice, the company reduced wages 33% to $12.30 - minimum wage and the stores are overstaffed , very rarely does commission surpass hourly. September 22 was a big hiring day promotion in anticipation of the mass exodus about to happen shortly.
