Good
Clayton homes is a good paying job with great benefits. The distance for me to work and back home is too much and has caused me to look for different work closer to home
ProsGood pay
ConsToo far from home

Poor place to work
Clayton Homes is not a good place to work. Wages are poor with no chance of a pay raise. Poor management all the way around. Would not recommend this place for employment. The work atmosphere is like working in a mortuary or a prison.. I would never recommend this place to any one for employment. There is not a chance for growth nor does management train you properly or encourage you to learn all aspects of the job. Project manager is not a good supervisor nor does she want you to learn everything about the department because she is afraid you might do her job better and takes you learning as a threat to her job security.
ProsBenefits
ConsPoor management, disgusting behavior, project coordinator manager is horrible, horrible display of behavior for a supervisor, the worst supervisor I have ever met in all my working years.

They did me wrong, andi will never forget them for it.
I don't like claytons, they laid me off for no reason, i was the only good finisher they had and because my temp service hours where about finished they laid me off just so they didn't have to give me a raise.

Rewarding Work --- Never the same
Loved the pace and helping families to own their own homes. A typical day was in the office and at a home site over seeing contractors. Plenty of tools for marketing and keeping the sales pipeline full.

Clayton
Clayton Home was a good stepping stone in moving up in my job experience but it was not a permanent career. I enjoyed my time working in the office as the receptionist but I was not being compensated for the work load I consistently had growing

Department Supervisor | Maryville, TN | Apr 20, 2017
Good place for benefits and pay.
Clock in, go to your desk and start working. There were fun times during the day within your work group/department. Clock out. There were a lot of advantages, they have their own gym and workout area. Greenbelt area for walking. Great cafeteria and eating area. The company is very well rounded. Manufacturing, retail, insurance, finance, collections, repossession, resale and deficiency collections. A lot of areas someone could transfer to gain a lot of experience. Advancement was not always contingent on hard work or seniority. In some cases it was not a requirement at all. This type of management style made it stressful. It was hard to work for a manager you did not trust would have your back. That was the hardest part of the job. The most enjoyable was the many friends I made while I worked there. The laughter and how I enjoyed their company that has continued through today. I learned a lot about the law on personal and real property, how to hire and fire employees, how to successfully manage people and how succeed. Clayton Homes taught me how to be a better me and how to survive any adversity or problem. It made me a better employee and person. I retired after 24 years because my husband had previously passed away and I had to take care of my elderly mother. I would recommend it as a place to work because of the pros. It is a good place to work and you can have fun there.
ProsBenefits, salaries, gym, workout areas, health oriented, location
ConsAdvancement issues

As a Employee you don’t have weekend off and they say one thing and turn around do something else.
The Adminastors doesn’t stand on what they say they do whatever is convienant for them. Also you don’t have weekend off at all your weekend is either for example Monday & Tuesday is your weekend. And if you bring in documents as to why you can’t take anything they still want you to do what you can’t do. Also they will lie about the pay.
ProsFree Lunch
ConsNo breaks

Managemant needs to be more involved
This would have been a wonderful company to work for if it was not for the poor attitudes of the sales team. The maitenance team supervisor is extremely unorganized and does not like to follow schedule. Just very poor attitudes all around, The manager, sales manager and sales team do anything and everything in order to push sales including lying to potential customers. I would not recommend anyone apply here nor buy from this particular home center. All around disorganized and bad attitudes.

Productive and rewarding
Great place to work. Providing opportunity for families to become homeowners is very rewarding. Daily activities and responsibilities are well taught and displayed with a high degree of support and training. The opportunity with Clayton Homes is extremely good and you can expect to be rewarded for your hard work and dedication to the task at hand in helping families in the surrounding communities.

Great Corporate Vision
Visionary direction and support from the corporate structure. They have a great desire to create an employee friendly culture. I upgraded my computer skills and appreciated that I always had the support I needed to be efficient at my job.

Questions And Answers about Clayton Homes

What advice would you give the CEO of Clayton Homes about how to improve it?
Asked Sep 28, 2016
Do whatever it took to eliminate the dishonesty of the good ole boy management structure similar to that of the Trump adminstration. Ensure that compensation is comensurate this the amount of labor involved, especially in relation to the cost of living in each specific area to ensure that CMH facilities do not continue to contribute to the growing wealth disparity, as well as the Underwater net zero or negative worth households in the United States. It seems to me if you are building houses for people every day that the people responsible for doing that should not be kept at an Underwater place in society. Flexibility in management issues that consider each individual should also be considered because the circumstances for individuals, regions, as well as the company and its many different types of facilities vary so widely that failure to do so is not only unreasonable, but is in fact, directly responsible for dissatisfaction in the workplace and an exceedingly high turnover rate that actually results in a net loss when considered against retaining good, trained employees, and I assure you a severely diminished NPS regarding both written and word of mouth reviews about the CMH companies.

Talk to you employees at clayton connect directly without mgmt. Look at your turnover rate. When i had my own business i kept the same employees for 18 years. Ask your self why i did. Create a company that employees want to stay at and are very loyal to. ( Treat a employee right, train him or her right and pay them right they will be a loyal employee! Treat them bad no matter how good you train and pay them you will loose them! )

What is the interview process like at Clayton Homes?
Asked Jul 12, 2016
Easy going and laid back. Easy to talk to the hiring manager.
Answered Aug 29, 2020
One phone interview, two in person interviews. I was an out of state candidate and they asked me to come back for a second in person interview (executive position). I asked if they would consider doing it via Skype because it would be difficult to get off work again, plus use vacation time to come back and interview. They said that was not possible, so I went ahead and took more time off work. The second in-person interview was literally 10 minutes and the hiring manager's boss just asked me about my hobbies and interests, nothing about the job or your typical interview questions. A few days later I got an email telling me they were doing away with the position entirely and weren't hiring anyone. I felt a little put out because that second interview could have easily been done via Skype and saved me vacation time and suspicion from my current employer that I was looking for a new job. Not to mention the fact that they didn't even hire someone for the job, they just decided after putting myself and other interviewees (I'm assuming) through 3 rounds of interviews just to decide not to hire for the position at all.

How do you feel about going to work each day at Clayton Homes?
Asked Feb 9, 2018
Horrible not where I worked. We would get there around 8 and leave at close. We would be lucky to see 3-4 walk-ins and then make 50-100 follow up calls. With maybe 7-10 appointments made and only 2 showing up.
Answered Jun 11, 2019
I feel like I’m in prison because literally 99% of the employees working there are all fresh out of jail or prison. If you are a decent, normal, and clean person you will not fit in. It is not a secret the kind of dirtbags they hire there.
Answered May 16, 2019
If you were in charge, what would you do to make Clayton Homes a better place to work?
Asked Nov 18, 2019
Compensate people fairly for their labor
Answered Nov 11, 2021
I would listen to the employees that are actually on the floor doing the work. But the office people who has never done any of the labor of course they know best
