The days go fast if you work
Working with children is stressful enough but the state has the ability to make it better for the culture if they wanted to for educators. I love the school I work at it is family oriented amongst the staff. I really love my experience with My coworker family I will really miss them.

Need New Job
A typical day at work for me is very dramatic and sad at times. I work at a High school, and counsel 9th,10th,11th,and 12th graders. I have been counseling for 4 year now and it time to follow my passionate, and that is working on the railroad like my dad once did.

Very Interactive Day
A Very Interactive Day with young people. Teaching is a noble profession. One does not go into teaching for the money but rather for the twinkle in the eyes of a student when they have understood a concept you taught them or figured out for themselves how to solve a problem based on your guidance. Teachers are facilitators making things happen in the class room and outside. The greatest compliment is when a student (whom you may have taught long ago) approaches you on the bus or in the market place and tells us something like, "You really helped me learn..."

A great to work. Allows you to give to the community. There great benefits. Through CPS I advanced my career. Although, I'm tired sometimes when my work day is over. I forward to going back. It is about the children and community.

Principal’s have too much power.
Principles have too much power. And they can choose to move you out of your position into another position for their advantage verses for your good. So it’s a strategic move on their part to benefit their agenda.

Administrative Assistant | Chicago, IL | Dec 9, 2020
Important work, not paid enough
I have worked assisting a small team. I work online and my hours are very flexible as long as I am online for meetings and progressing my work. I have learned a lot about the internal systems at CPS. The workplace culture is great, people are nice and focused on helping students. I have been supported constantly and it makes me eager to be helpful. The hardest part is the work itself, it is a lot to keep track of, and it is not necessarily completely engaging. I like my managers, and I feel I'm helping students to succeed.
ProsFlexible hours, work from home, great managers
ConsPaid minimum wage with no overtime

Cps is ok
Depending on where you are assigned, CPS is OK. It is demanding, but it depends on you to make the best of it. The pay is good as are the benefits it offers.

Summer's off
The best part of my job is that I can help children in special needs get though their day with confidence and joy. The workplace culture is friendly. There are always many activities throughout the day.

Working in CPS
It's by no means an easy process. The work that educators do is not something that any individual could fathom. Layer and layers of paperwork, protocol that many times doesn't make sense and initiatives that don't last for more than 3 years is frustrating especially when research states it takes 5 years to see change. You get to a point where just being grateful that you have a job isn't enough because the your health and emotional well being suffer and it is definitely a thankless job.
ProsNo official hours in the summer, working with students that appreciate an education, providing a safe haven to children, empowering the next generation
Consemotional stress, endless paperwork, bureaucracy, and many others.

Fasted Paced. But If That's What It Takes For OUR Children TO Accomplish And Accomplishes Their Goals Than Let's GET THE JOB DONE.
Answered Aug 3, 2019
All schools' work environments are different. I've worked in two schools, and both of them were very clicky and very political. Additionally, some of my other teacher friends throughout the city have also stated the same. Therefore, one can assume that most schools in Chicago, if not all, are probably clicky and political. With regard to competency, I have worked under many administrators over the years, and all but one were ignorant and incompetent. This is not to say we don't have quality administrators in the district. I'm sure there are fine leaders in some of our schools.
