Nice people to work with
The job itself was lax and we did have a few workers that are easy to get along with. Being at CeX is stressful since we were given goals that weren't achievable and there were favoritism in the management.
• Manage all daily activities in a specific area of the store (S&R, Dept, area), including selling and service, selecting and developing associates, merchandising and time and business management
• Manages employees and sets individual goals that link to departmental priorities. Coaches staff, supports development, makes hiring decisions, and drives performance management, recognition and rewards.
• Perform all store management functions in absence of Store Manager.
Not all managers are good. Extremely critical and without good advice.
I found that working at CeX was almost a waste of time. I got hired just before the holidays and then laid off after Christmas. There was nearly zero friendliness among most of staff. Extremely irritable leadership.
Growing a business across the USA remotely from England is a BAD IDEA. trying to maximize cash positions through often unethical and dare I say sometimes borderline illegal means is always a BAD IDEA.
ProsGreat people

A Fun Place to work for
CeX is definitely a fun place to work but the company itslef may need a little more direction.
On a typical day you can guarantee that you will be get at least 3 angry customers, which gets really tiring. It can be made up for by the fun environment and the great people with whom you work. In fact it feels much more like a spur of the moment idea that you and your co-workers came up with than a world wide business that has been running since 1992. This job really proved that it is much more important to actually have rules and a good corporate-esque structure that I would have believed. Trying to deal with the mixture of the unlevel running of the company, the customers whom have not gotten what they wanted, and the straight out of high school angst ridden teens with who you will work it is hard to handle. The vibe of the store was wonderful though.
Pros%15 discount on everything, getting to test out new electronics before you buy, get to meet cool people
Consno healthcare, someone will yell at you everyday, paid dirt for what you do
Fun work place with great people and room for much growth
I enjoy working for this company very much. They have great management and give great incentives to their employees.

Basic
Though only work experience the job was very basic in a lot of different ways and even on busy days there were barely any customers to deal with in general.
The workers are lovely and easy to get along with, you'll bond with them quickly and create a great friendship. However, customers can be abusive, ignorant and nasty. You'll need a thick skin to survive in the job.
So, My advice is to never work for CeX. I worked for a CeX owned by a franchisee. Aside from occasional 'head office' visits, the store was wholly managed by the franchisee (Henceforth: ABC enterprises).
For a short while it was good. The work was fun, I had an interest in the items we sold, the team was solid & so on. But soon, people began leaving. Usually either fired or resigning out of spite. This happened with increasing frequency. Now, I didn't pay too much attention at the time, I wasn't making mistakes and my hours were good.
But then I became a supervisor. I did a few months training, then I was practically running the store. With a colleague. We were keyholders to the store. We did this for 9 months. A total of a year had passed while doing this supervisor role, under immense pressure to hit certain targets and get memberships and so forth... but still on minimum wage. And a 0 hour contract. The stress of the role far outweighed any reward garnered. So we brought this matter to ABC enterprises, explaining that we felt we had been trained long enough and that we would like to be put on supervisors pay (it truly was a reasonable request). It was around this time that a bunch of other people left and I got to see what and why so many people had left in the past.
ABC enterprises were so irrational, so seemingly illogical with the way they dealt with people and situations, its almost too hard to describe. Like arguing with someone on a position on which they
ProsInitially relaxed atmosphere, music, (mostly) great colleagues
ConsLow wage, No guaranteed hours, little to no advancement
A typical day at work would include, coming in at given time (mandatory), going up to the the lounge, dropping belongings safely upstairs, going back down to sign in behind the counter. A full-day task would be given, for example; being told to merch for the day, be behind tills, on testing team, or cleaning.
I learned how to merch, use eCom, the steps I must go through to test certain technology/gadgets. I also learned how to benchmark laptops and do a physical check for faults in PCs/Laptops, Consoles, Mobile Phones, etc.
The co-workers I worked with were very welcoming in my first days on the job and friendly, and they remained the same. I became very close with all of my co-workers.
The hardest part of the job was keeping up with the time I was given to test each gadget. For example, some days I would be testing up to 3-4 mobile phones at a time for certain customers. Eventually, the more knowledge I had helped me with time keeping and quickly testing components/pcs/laptops/phones/consoles/etc correctly.
The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to work independently on the tester desk because it meant I could challenge myself and set myself tasks and work alone and be more focused. I also enjoyed being on customer service with my co-workers, the vibe of the shop was really cool.
ProsBorrow Video Games, Lunch Breaks, In Control of Store Music, Testing Video Games.
low pay and management don't know what they are doing. Small place to work at. No proper staff room. Career path is so bad and even management get lower pay than any other company so you wouldn't even want to progress at CEX.
Really enjoyed my time here, only down side was massive staff turn over, and constant late nights due to heavy stock intake, would quite happily return.
A typical day at Cex would be labelling stock in the morning and sorting out the shop floor. In the afternoon I would help in the back by sorting the discs out and testing electronics for trading in. I learnt how the shop runs in the background and what I would be doing if I was to work in retail. The management and the staff were friendly and helpful. The job was enjoyable. The most difficult part of it was probably testing the electronic goods to see if they were faulty.
When everyone's on their point, it's smooth sailing but sometimes people fall behind and don't turn up which can put stress on those working on busy days. It's generally nice but it depends on where you work as it's franchise.
