Terminal Manager | United States | Oct 1, 2019
Orderly and efficient
"If it works, fix it" sums up Central Transport. Quality driven focus. Clearly detailed expectations. Payroll was difficult. Time and attendance very unforgiving. Do it correctly and there were no problems. Good leadership. Account Managers very aggressive. Good support from General Office.

IT Assistant | Warren, MI | Nov 21, 2017
Poor management
Was typically very chaotic, and management favoritism was unbearable. Either your in or your out regardless of job performance, since management based everything on popularity, and who agreed with them more.
ProsCo-workers are sometimes nice
ConsNo lunches, short breaks, always watched on camera by supervisors.

A typical day
Come in you clock in using your RF gun, then grab a lift and unload trucks you may have to do some down stacking here and there. The second half you'll be loading the trucks you have to judge the freight according to where the beams go for the top half and bottom
ProsPart-time job
Conspart-time pay/benifits

Unsafe dock condition and unstable damaged trailers
Very unsafe dock conditions and trailers with pitches on the floor. 1s 3 weeks when i started, in 2019 i never recived a check, regarding payroll issues. As far as partime hours i worked was fair. Work enviornment, not 100%. .open docks, work was under the harsh elements. Hazarde to health. Comes with the job. Not for everyone. I recomend indoor facilities.

Great place to start as a young student
I worked with a lot of different people throughout my years here. I did a lot of data entry and speaking with different companies and terminals. The one bad thing about the job was poor communication between departments which sometimes led to poor service. I think if they worked on that, it would be much more proactive. Nonetheless, I learned a lot about the professional workplace and worked with some great people.

Questions And Answers about Central Transport

How are the working hours at Central Transport?
Asked Jun 15, 2016
Not worth risking your life.
Answered Sep 29, 2019
Linehaul drivers will work 14 hrs. The home/work balance is definitely out of whack. They are not going to give you "their time" to let you take care of personal business, but they have a business to run. OT after 55 doesn't apply to linehaul. However, the dock hours are what take your paycheck over the top. I enjoy working here.
Answered Aug 1, 2019
If you were in charge, what would you do to make Central Transport a better place to work?
Asked Jan 15, 2018
Hire the teamsters, get rid of dock work forever and hire full-time dock workers, and get rid of all the bad management.
Answered Oct 7, 2021
Better trailers. Trucks are 2021 but a lot of trailers are old.
Answered Nov 19, 2020
How fast do the trucks go
Asked Sep 20, 2016
I'm getting ready to go to orientation but I may pass on it if I'm not guaranteed a 68 mph truck.
Answered Jul 4, 2020
Some are 62, some run 68. It seems that there are more 68 mph trucks than there used to be.
Answered Aug 1, 2019
What advice would you give the CEO of Central Transport about how to improve it?
Asked Mar 22, 2017
Too much Micromanagement.Too much being pushed all day to go faster at some stops that need a little more time to deliver or pick-up.Too much driver harassment with some of the text messaging.Too many write ups for petty reasons.Too much hand holding all day long from management.
Answered Sep 7, 2021
Just another job with no future. Drivers new to the business can't even shift gears. They need automatics. Industry is doomed. The road is dangerous all night. 25 years and I'm finished with it. Good luck.
Answered Nov 12, 2020
How much dock work is required?
Asked Jun 14, 2017
4-5 hours in the morning then drive for 10 or so then 2-3 at night
Answered Feb 17, 2021
Sure we work the dock. You do 8 or 9 hours in the truck in the city then you come back and work the dock for an hour or 2...its not a hard job. The money is good. I've been a combination driver most of my 22yr career... An average day's pay for me is about 270 or so ... try finding that in a regular "parts in a box" type company... As drivers we typically make more then most management types in other industries...
