Cato
It was a great experience working with customers. I had to do sales and inventory. I worked with a computer system to check out customers and scan sales. I worked with a great people.
productive and fun work place, friendly and exciting
Working with my current team is the highlight of my day. We have a great team and I love working with many of the customers that come in the store. My experience over the past 3 years has been great!
Very stable work environment, everyone always knew their duties & responsibilities to be performed, little advancement in pay, I loved my co-workers
This job is very enjoyable, as an assistant manager I learned a lot! A typical day would be coming in whether I had a night/day shift, clocking in, checking the sales for the day to know where we were at, consulting with the previous manager who had been on duty, handling customers, checking out people, organizing merchandise, cash pickups, counting down drawers at the end of the night etc... There was always something to do. My particular area was over the accessories department. I learned how to solve customer problems & complaints in a well mannered acceptable way. In order to do this, I remained calm and always met my customer's needs. There are so many new things I learned about sales, stock & inventory, maintaining a clean and organized store, and how to be a leader. I wouldn't trade the experience I gained from this job for anything, except maybe more experience! It was great to work with other women who were very down to earth and who wanted to see the company do well just as I did. The hardest part of the job was, the hours I had to work. When I was part time however, it was not bad at all. Being a manager here requires you to almost always be on call, work weekends, and work over 9 hours on every shift. I felt like I was there all the time. The most enjoyable part of the job, I think there were two things that I found to be the most enjoyable: my co-workers, and returning customers. Some "frequent flyers" we called them, were the nicest women who just loved our merc
Prosbreaks, nice customers, professional environment
It wasn't a pleasant place to work i just got to complacent
Over worked under paid not a good place to work. The benefits are not good but the majority of the co workers was very friendly. Some of the supervisors are pleasant to work under and some are just unfriendly I worked there for 15 years just got burned out, I hated the pay very low wages for the amount of work they want you to put in, they threaten you about making production but they don't pay you for it.
it's all about their numbers and meeting their quotas. They don't show appreciation for their employees
ProsThey my have some pizza or barbecue for the employees but rare.
ConsThier Heakthcare sucks.

It is a good place to work
I enjoyed working at Cato but i just didn't see any room for advancement in any areas but each location is different. It is a fast paced and competitive environment which i enjoyed but things would be a lot smoother if everyone worked together.

Wonderful company with horrid management
Cato Cooperation was very fun to work for. I love the customers and the higher, professional management. I was promoted to second assistant manager after just 45 days. The store where I worked, personally; had very poor management. More than one employee complained to cooperate about management on more than one occasion and nothing was ever done. My manger there took advantage of her employees, lied to us on the regular and her scheduling was very inconsistent. I ended up quitting my position after missing work from severe pneumonia- after being told directly that missing work would not effect my position.
Prosfun customer interactions, first to see the newest styles, discount
This is a fast paced environment with new challenges everyday. Cross functional teams work together on a daily basis to achieve company goals in a collaborative environment.

Could be more family oriented
The company could focus on being more family oriented and making the associates a part of some of the important decisions that impact those individuals who are doing the job.
At the jobs where I wirked retail I really enjoyed myself
When working at the retail stores and one on one with customers I was very happy. I enjoyed helping people pick out new scents, new clothes, and even material to make things with.
I really enjoyed working for the Cato Corporation. There are were great opportunities for advancement. Meeting new people and assisting customers with clothing selections were always the highlight of my day at Cato.

Questions And Answers about Cato Corporation
What would you suggest Cato Corporation management do to prevent others from leaving?
Asked Mar 20, 2017
Pay better! I feel overworked and underpaid most days. Paying new employees more then minimum wage is great but it doesn’t help keep the employees that you already have if you don’t raise their pay as well. Especially those employees that were loyal through the pandemic

Stop being so greedy and raise the hourly pay!

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Cato Corporation a better place to work?
Asked Jan 10, 2018
Better pay so you can keep employees. Working alone and getting no days off because of pay is tiring.
Answered Apr 20, 2021
Stay up to date with the trends and market to a younger crowd at the same time as keeping the older age group. Pay the employees more and give the stores more hours with better training. Sales suffer due to understaffing, under training, and bad turnover.

Why did you leave your job at Cato Corporation?
Asked Mar 20, 2017
I was told that I'm full time but only receive part time hours. The pay is horrible and the manager plus co workers are horrible people.
Answered Aug 10, 2021
Bad manager with a DM that said you could approach her but when you did, shut you down. Never trained correctly for duties and yet punished for not knowing what you were never taught. Once they get rid of the manager they will get rid of the high turnover.

For as much as they needed a manager ASAP, they dragged their feet. It took over two weeks to get hired and a week between my two interviews.
