Part time job
Being a Caption Agent, Customer Service Representatives, has helped me a lot more in life than I expected. I love helping others and this is a great way to do it!

Productive workplace with many new things to learn.
I learned so many computer skills and how to communicate with people over email. I had flexible hours and I felt comfortable asking my manager and coworkers for help. The hardest part of the job was making sure that I got to a point where I didn't need to ask for help.

Good fun place
Good fun to place. It takes time to learn the culture of the place. But it is fun once you get the hang of it. Opportunities to move up in the work place.

Simple job
Its a simple job, you listen to telephone conversations and repeat verbatim one side of the conversation. Pay isn't a liveable wage.. if you do get a pay increase its only a few cents at a time, but they stopped doing that. Management only cares about roster goals. You are just a body in a seat to them.
Proseasy work, desk job

Get comfortable in Warm Doo Doo Here
If you have no drive and just want to sit and talk through a microphone all day, then this is the job for you. It's hard to caption every word a person says, you miss some or think you hear something and say it and when you are wrong, you get called on it. Weekly testing and people testing you randomly. Never fails each week. Adherence is big, attendance is big, everything is such a big deal except the pay. If you want to work for minimum wage forever, work here. Raises of about three cents per hour per year is what you will get if you ever get anything. You are not valued here. You are a number.

Gets old very fast
Be prepared to listen to stupid people most of your day. The calls can be stressful when it's somebody who doesn't speak clearly (which is a lot of the time). Also be prepared to caption a lot of southerners with heavy accents. This job is decent for students, but they occasionally don't work with your school schedule like they say they will. If you are in a higher position and need to change your schedule, you will most likely get demoted and replaced. The raises are absolutely garbage. The highest raise is 0.10$ PER YEAR. It caps after 5 years.
ProsIsolated work
ConsBoring, repetitive, and tedious.

Poor Management and Culture
Management is lazy and the employees behave poorly. Feedback can take a few months. I came in to reapply after looking for a new job for a while. My manager lied about the hours they had available.
ProsFlexible scheduling
ConsPoor management

Questions And Answers about Caption Call

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Caption Call a better place to work?
Asked Feb 21, 2017
Better Pay.... Raise the WAGES!!! People who have been here for years are not even making much more than when they started. pennies... Not even a $1.00 more... These wages are not livable.
Answered Dec 2, 2021
Ask the people what they want. I'd say $0.50 birthday pay. We already get a card and candy, but on the second birthday spent with CaptionCall I'd switch the card to an e-card then have a little personalized handwritten birthday sticky note with the treat.

How fast do you need to type for this position?
Asked Aug 15, 2016
30 WPM, you have three tries to pass. Typing is used for correcting errors quickly while captioning.
Answered Jun 7, 2020
Why do they want 30 wpm typing if you do not type all day almost at all? Nonsense

Why did you leave your job at CaptionCall?
Asked Mar 17, 2017
I left because of the vicarious trauma. Captioning people saying hateful things and talking about hateful acts that they have committed or are planning to commit wears on the psyche.

Because Tucson management sucks and they discriminate. They all talk behind your back and blacklist you just because of who you are. DONT WORK AT TUCSON CAPTIONCALL

What is the work environment and culture like at Caption Call?
Asked Jun 18, 2016
It's stressful. You are tested weekly and never know when it's coming and you are graded on those test. You fail, you get written up and your job is on the line every week. You are treated like a 3rd grader. They even schedule your potty breaks for you and if you go to the bathroom outside of that scheduled potty break, well then expect your adherence score to go down and you will get written up...just like a 3rd grader.

How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Caption Call? What are the steps along the way?
Asked Jun 18, 2016
I applied the 1st of the month. I had my test/interview on the 3rd. The typing test was a breeze. The dictating voice to text test was a bit nerve racking. For me this was mainly due to an employee standing there with you. Overall the tests are easy to pass. Then a few minutes later I went in for an interview. During the interview we worked out a schedule that worked best for both of us. The next day I submitted a urine sample and a background check. I got the results back via email the following Wednesday. Caption Call contacted me the following Monday via email and asked me to set up a time to discuss my background results. I had a class B misdemeanor form years prior. We had a phone call and they let me tell them what happened etc. They told they need to further review this to make a decision. Four days later I received the call that I got the job. Later that day I received an email informing when I would start training. For me it took a total of 28 days from applying to start training and get paid. If you have a clean background I would assume it could still take about 3 weeks to start.
Answered May 22, 2018
If you pass the initial test you'll be interviewed on the spot. I was one of the top 3 best scores they ever had and they didn't hire me. They state they have a very flexible schedule so when I told them the hours I was available they told me they only have specific schedules and I had to pick one. None of them worked for me so they didn't hire me. You'd think having one of the top best scores they would work with me. Their loss!!
