Good Employer
Generous compensation for your work. Company respects workers and strives to maintain a positive work environment. Your work day goes by very quickly in the busier, fast-paced stores.
ProsFree beverages. Allowed to get a quick snack on the clock.
Consno sit down or punch out breaks. Management ranges from excellent to sub par depending on location

Employee that was overworked and not appreciated | Robertsdale, AL | Jul 6, 2021
Average pay but you earn it. No advancement if your not in the inner circle instead of qualifications
No appreciation for workers from Management. No advancement if your not liked and fit the mold of being able to be brainwashed from upper Management. Different rules for each employee. Overtime only allowed when they need it or you work in deli. Turn over rate is around 70% or higher. Chaotic work environment is everyday. BS is the motto from upper Management who tells you what you want to hear but never truly listens to what and how you feel as an employee. There is NO OPEN DOOR POLICY from upper Management when you ask to speak to some of them they act like what do you want now. I have never felt like I was listened to by Management. Corporate needs to open their eyes to the real issues or it could be devastating with their rules and inability to hire quality people and when they do happen to hire them they get let go after 3 tardies. Oh let's not forget employee parking across road from store in Robertsdale, AL with a suppose to be crosswalk with incomplete crosswalk (roadway) markings with no crosswalk sign. Think twice before working here sometimes less is more. RUN!
ProsAverage Pay, Benefits, Most Co-Worker's made day go by faster
ConsManagement, Favoritism, Overworked, No Advancement if Management doesn't like you and they can't control you, No overtime only when shorthanded or deli, No appreciation

Pay draws people in, Terrible policies and management draw people away
Please read carefully before considering a position there. As I have a limited number of characters please understand that Buc-ees as a company invest in bodies and not people. Meaning they are a revolving door for their staff. Their pay is THE ONLY pro. I have numerous stories on how poorly they treat their staff and it all falls within the scope of what is legal since they exploit every legal loophole and exploit their workers in the process. People have been let go due to their own mistakes, they do not care about any extenuating circumstances such as family emergencies, broken down vehicles, or even personal injuries. The company does not offer bereavement, and offers absolutely no breaks. The only thing they offer is a “moment” where you have 5 minutes to eat, it starts the moment you walk away and you cannot sit, must stand while eating at a designated cocktail table. If you value your health, your personal sanity, and your family know that they will not prioritize or help you. Please spread awareness and warn others, my hope is if they lose enough staff they will have to change their policies. You deserve better.
ProsPay
ConsEverything, dont work here...no breaks, no bereavement, no advancement, no discounts, not “tolerating” real emergencies, will not keep you safe from harassing guests, will write you up over their own mistakes, very strict and rigid policies.

Cut Throat Management
There is very little flexibility and strict enforcement of employee behavior. You have to stand for lunch and are only given just a few minutes to eat, no employee discount and there are no real benefits to employee company culture. Everything is very strict and does not have the employee in mind.

Bucees
I enjoyed my time working at bucees. I was sad to leave, but had to move. Great place to work if you love to work and stay busy. I am a workaholic so it was perfect for me at the time.

Anywhere but here
On the outside it looks fun to work for this company, but nothing could be further from the truth. The managers do not care about the employees. All that matters is that they get their yearly bonuses. You will get written up if you’re even a minute late. A friend of mine got into a car accident on the way to work, called and informed the manager on duty of the situation and was still written up.. If you have a choice do NOT work here. Money is good but not worth it

good summer job
pay is good but company uses that to their advantage almost as if they hang it over your head. breaks are 10 minutes out of a 8 hour shift and you can never sit down. Also their is no levels of discipline, 1 minute late and i do mean 1 minute your written up or fired, and any food that is not paid for ex: a fry that fell on the counter in the deli, your fired for. people are nice but talking also can get you in trouble.
Prosdecent pay
Consstricter than normal envirornment, barely any breaks

Long work and very little appreciation
Clock in on time, run to work station, bust your butt, one 15 minute lunch break that you must stand through, no chairs, no sitting, clean and restock while helping customers, clock out and check schedule to make sure hours are still the same for tomorrow because management won't tell you if it has. I learned by watching how not to manage people. The co-workers were good people. The hardest part of the job was dealing with managers who thought that they were above the rules. The most enjoyable part was the small 15 minute break and leaving at the end of the day.
ProsHigher pay than normal, co-workers
ConsWeird hours, bad management

Great part time job with friendly staff
Great for part time job, not for a career unless you are a manager. I recommend eating before you get there because there is only one very short lunch break.

Questions And Answers about Buc-ee's

What tips or advice would you give to someone interviewing at Buc-ee's?
Asked Jul 30, 2016
Yes they are upfront about their expectations but some are more extreme. I believe in policies to be in place but when Management picks which employee's have to adhere to it trust me it's not always fair.
Answered Jul 10, 2021
Buc-ee's pays well and expects strong, solid work ethic in exchange. Conservative policies discussed prior to accepting the job. Nothing is a surprise. This is not a job for everyone. If you enjoy a challenge, love people, and don't mind hard work while earning great money, having benefits, including 401k and three weeks paid time off then give it a try. if any of this scares, you, then it's probably not a fit.

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Buc-ee's a better place to work?
Asked Nov 30, 2016
EVERYTHING. Honestly I only worked at my location for less than a year and I hated every second of it. Management needs training, employees need to be trained more not just given a day to learn everything. No favoritism, specially from the managers, treat employees like human beings not just a number.
Answered Aug 16, 2021
Place needs a major overhaul of training both employees and managers. I felt as if I would rather swallow a hot coal than ever work here again. I feel policies need to apply to all not just a select few. No phones allowed on floor yet managers in uniform using phones and texting. Completely unacceptable you don’t expect things from your employees that you wouldn’t do yourself. Place is aweful for employment

Is it true you only get a 10 min break for an 8 hour day ? I didn't think that was legal.
Asked Sep 12, 2016
10-15 minutes at the Daytona location. Managers don’t seem super bothered of you go over a little. Just as long as you work hard!
Answered Sep 2, 2021
Buc-Ed’s gives you a moment to grab a bite to eat. You’re usually scheduled for an 8 hour shift and that’s what you work. If you need to use the restroom, use it. How long does it really take you to eat? It’s enough time to down a sandwich and drink your free beverage. If you had a scheduled, non-paid break, you would be scheduled 8 and 1/2 hours instead of 8. Give and take.

Can I work at buc-ee's if I keep my tattoos on my forearms covered?
Asked Jul 5, 2016
You are allowed to have tattoos as long as they are covered 24/7 if they are seen by a manager then you will be terminated. Someone in Deli rolled they sleeves up to their elbows while chopping bbq and got fired for their tattoos being displayed A LITTLE.
Answered Jun 8, 2021
Buc-ee’s uniform, for purchase, includes a long sleeve shirt or a jacket. Keep your tattoos covered and you’ll be fine. I have tattoos on my ankles so I just wear socks to cover them when I wear shorts.
