Overall Reviews at Big Lots

Terrible management
I worked for this company for almost a year, was told I would be given a promotion. They ended up promoting me to “food captain” which only came with more hours (overnight hours) and NO pay raise. I was told I could switch back to my daytime store floor associate position and that was a lie. The bayshore big lots does not treat their employees fair. I won many awards for sales and such and yet never got any praise nor the raise I was told I’d receive. Instead

productive and friendly work environment
It is a retail job so you help customers throughout your day, whether its to find items, price check, sell furniture, or check them out at the registers. The managers are there to help you whenever need be as well as the long time associates.

Went downhill
I had an amazing store manager and the management team was excellent and we worked together to push the store to the next level. Our store manager retired and was replaced by a leader who is not fit for the store team that we made and the quality of work will drop considerably with the negative presence of this replacement manager.
Pros20% discount in store and 30% on furniture, 15 min paid break, available benefits to part and full time
ConsStore Manager was great but replacement is not the right person for the job.

Its was ok until new management change evrything
It's like any other retail store you come in click in read the daily board to see what's your position on that day go to talk to a manager to double check if it right then start your day

Horrible
I would never commit to a biglots again. Either work or personal shopping business. They have horrible management skills and very poor leadership skills.

Worst job I've ever had
Many of the company's other stores are likely better than this location. The store mgr in was the worst mgr I've ever worked for in over 20 years of retail. The mgr's apathy(& unhappiness) was the source of all the store's problems: hostile work environment created by long-term coworker & the store mgr as well--when mgr was approached about the coworker -by more than 1 person- NOTHING done, NOTHING changed. Rate of pay for stocking inadequate; Strength & stamina required to unload once to twice weekly (18 wheeler truck) fully packed shipments is considerable- it took 4-6 people an average of 5-6 hours to complete, occasionally took over 8 hours & never less than 4. Overall, it was an every-man-for-himself environment; The asst mgrs were nice but overworked by a checked-out boss. Good work going unnoticed & being labeled by your mistakes was the norm.
ConsLow pay, hostile work environment

Awful Management
The store manager is very rude, and very strict. She is OK when it comes to scheduling, but she's very condescending in person. The assistant store manager should be the head store manager because she actually knows how to run a store.

It’s okay stay 6 months to a 1 year or you’ll really start to hate it.
Don’t get stuck there it’s really the other employees that make it worth it. 20% off the store isn’t that much. Mangers nice one day then rude the other

fun work place
It was a lot of fun when we were busy. But most of the year it was pretty slow which was tedious. The people i worked with and the majority of the customers were awesome.
