i worked for a c 19 plus we were not allowed to better ourselves no promotion stuck in a job and tolled your are doing this your working all day Saturday no ifs or buts I had problem with the car wash it was frozen they were warned because it was out in the open that's just for starters
It is very hard to get time off, inconvenient hours, and poor management. The handling of business and treatment of customers behind the scene is quite unprofessional. The workers are very nice and the job itself is not terrible.
I have my degree in photography the work I enjoy alot. The management style leaves something to be desired. There is alot of turn over and the work environment is negative.
Had a very good time there loved the banter as I can work as part of a team or as an individual.
Sales targets were quite high but ok
I would say I was always on the sales board and on premier division.
I was excellent at referals and networking.
PPI<Extended warranys and add ns were my thing.
Worked at this company for four years only to be made redundant over the phone. I was an exemplary employee during my time here, I was made redundant along with hundreds of others with the excuse of 'the needs of the business'. The business seems to be doing fine however, profits have mainly been recuperated and they continue to open new branches at the expense of hundreds of loyal staff members. A company ran by accountants only seeing their staff as numbers, swanning around in £60k+ company cars pulling the wool over the rest of the remaining staff members eyes, no doubt further 'reviews' to come. When and if they hire publicly again, be wary. From my experience, operational management upwards are snakes and not to be trusted. Shame that no papers have picked up on this yet, the money they get from Arnold Clark's marketing might have something to do with it right enough...
ProsCompany cars for most decent roles, pay was ok.
ConsPoor management and operational decision making
I've been at Arnold Clark Glasgow in the Parts Dept for 7 years now and if say it's the best job I've had
Always a pleasure to go into work ,great team of guys that I worked with
They promise all sorts at an interview. One weekend off a month. Big money and two late nights a week. Great! Not the real deal. More like 6 late nights a week as they constantly peck your head. Don't ever let a customer leave even if they don't want the car.
Below average part exchange valuations on decent cars.
Be prepared to have no home life or friendships as you will never make that dinner appointment, birthday party or indeed have your one day a week off without having to go into work to do something.
Managers are happy to hand deals to selected members of staff and others work hard for their own targets. be prepared to work a minimum wage as once you take into account the actual hours you work, you earn less than a till operator in a supermarket. If you have no life, no friends and willing to work 70 hour week - welcome to the worse company ever
Be prepared to HOUND customers for business
Don#t get me wrong there are some lovely people but manages tend to work you like a dog, speak to you like a dog and treat you like a dog. Never have I been spoken to in such a way and be prepared for the back lash should you challenge anyone.
They move the goal post constantly and don't bother reading your employment contract or think you can take your holiday ENTITLEMENT when you want it. Be prepared to work your self to death whilst your tired and don't expect any time off for doctors hospital or dental appointments - you will be told to take a half days holiday
I have worked as a Sales Executive for AC for nearly 1 year.
I can HONESTLY say this is by far the WORST company I have EVER EVER EVER worked for!!!!
Please at all costs do not accept a job with Arnold Clark, go do anything else but work for them, it will rob you of everything you have - self respect, self confidence, morals, appreciation for other human beings and the list goes on......
I was the most unhappy I have ever been working for this company.
The are the most unproffessional, ignorant, nasty, foul mouthed bunch of people I have ever come across.
The disrespect shown for staff from managers is just DISGUSTING!!!
And as far as I am aware I worked in one of the better branches.... so who knows what the worst ones are like.... ones things for certain please dont waste your life trying to find out!!!
I read these reviews before I accepted a job with them, and went to work for them anyway.... what a mistake!!!! dont make the same mistake I made. Read these reviews and take them onboard, almost every branch out of the 160 is the same.... unprofessional and nasty. You will be screamed at more in your first month than you have probably ever been screamed at in your whole life.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
ProsFree time and coffee breaks
ConsYou will have all self confidence and self respect stollen from you within 1 month
My day was spent trying to rip off any one stupid enough to buy a car from Arnold Clark by booking them in for a service or mot, the prices charged were ridiculous but we backed it up with the old " you could invalidate your warranty" line. The majority of staff didn't use Arnold clark for their cars even with the staff discount.
Most of the managers didn't seem to be qualified for a managerial position I think this was due to the salary being so uncompetitive they couldn't attract any decent staff.
Terrible company to work for, rubbish wages, incompetent management.
Found good experience for apprenticeship but the rare wage increase effects the job. The hours there seem to just increase too and with no gratitude for the amount of hours put in.
Very poor bodyshop management, expected you to everything ,from booking jobs in ,repairing cars ,delivering cars and involving, and still get dump on .
Im just writing in this box so i can get the word count up so i can get on with actually looking for work, what i did actually want to do on indeed in the first place
Obsessed with budgets. No staff development.very poor
Would not advise working for this company.
4 managers in 2 years managers lacked managerial experience, they were only given the role out of convenience
Brilliant place to work with great advancement potential
Overall a brilliant place to work, very supportive of staff and lots of opportunities to advance your career, some of the sales staff seem to be up their own rear ends at times but i suppose its the nature of the job, it always seemed like more of a family than a workplace as everyone seemed to get on with each other well, there could be a few incidents of favouritism time and agai but nothing major
I've recently joined Arnold Clark as part of the coaching development team. I've been super impressed with the supportive culture and level of trust given to me to do a great job from my new leader. The team have been very welcoming and supportive too which is a great reassurance. I've learned so much in my first four weeks in the job and can already see very clearly how my skillset can help the teams within Arnold Clark and how I can see myself develop within role. I love the environment it's a very new and shiny office with fantastic facilities and on-site parking is such a great benefit especially when working in the city centre. The future is looking bright at Arnold Clark!
ProsLunch card allowance, flexible working, supportive leadership team
I have worked within Arnold Clark for 17 years, if you are looking for a good work/life balance plus professional development this is for you.
If you display an open mind, an eagerness to excel and a positive attitude then the opportunities you are looking for will present themselves.
While there, the staff where rude, obnoxious, crude, arrogant, and had zero work ethic or professionalism, let alone the understanding of the word. Music would be blaired out of the office, staff would run around screaming, swearing, and messing about like children, managment didnt care as long as it didn't disturb them, if there was a n issue, management didn't get involved unless asked by their 'favorite' staff memeber.
Unless you want to work around idiotic children, stay well clear
This was school work experience for 1 week only.
I really enjoyed my time at Arnold Clerk. The staff were extremely friendly made me feel very welcome.
