Supervisors don't care about employees.
Everything they buy is cheap. Management is a joke and there is no room for advancement at either Rancho or Redlands divisions. Supervisors are two faced and the morale is non existent.
ProsExperience
ConsNon flexible hours, poor pay, cheap equipment

fun environment to stack up on experience
Very rewarding when I look back on it. • Gained the ability to make decisions, work independently, learn quickly, think rationally and exercise good judgment in stressful and high intensity environments • Advanced my computer skills; able to navigate multiple programs and windows at once. Comfortable in multi-screen environments • Acquired outstanding communication skills; strong ability to communicate effectively and professionally via e-mail, telephone and 2-way devices at the same time • Grew to possess a solid ability to pay close attention to detail and work effectively in diverse team environments • Gained a good knowledge of basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel • Taught me very good verbal and written communication skills, capable of operating common office equipment, and computer-literacy that includes basic keyboard data entry • Acquired a solid ability to be results-oriented that makes a difference, taking initiative to make things happen, accepts accountability and have a “can do” attitude • Gained a solid ability to work in a team environment along with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision solid ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

Fellow Employees make the job
Most everyone at the company are awesome people, work is fun if you make it be that way. Management often doesn't talk to you as a human being. Patients tend to be super pleasant. I love my job, I love coming to work everyday, but its really the employees and patients make it that way. To management, your just a number on the payroll.

Management problems
District ops manager does not care about his people treats everyone like he doesn’t need you and you are all expendable. Too many people are severely depressed working there because the morale is so bad.
ProsGood benefits
ConsBad management

EMS Company
Loved my job, Loved what I did. Management is horrific. If Management were to change I would go back to work for AMR in a heartbeat. This is a perfect example of why the company gets a bad reputation, bad management.

Great place to learn
Enjoyed the experience of learning the medical industry. The hardest part was not being able to have more time for training. Outsourcing was the worse of this employer.

Great place to work, but lousy in taking care of its employees
Working in this industry has its pro's and con's. The pro's are the autonomy that we get while in the field. We are in charge and have no one looking over our shoulder as we provide medical care. AMR is a for profit company, so the patients well being, or treatment is secondary to the paramedics and EMTS in the field obtaining insurance information. Now as it stands, they are a for profit private ambulance company and need to make money for the stock holders, but not at the expense and morale of the work force. We are expendable and treated as such. The main thing to do while working this job, or any job for that matter, is to focus on why were are doing this job in the first place. Focus on good customer service and treatment rather than getting reimbursed for a transport. Compassion goes a long way in this job, and so does stress. AMR has truly dropped the ball in taking care of its own. Money is the driving factor for AMR.

Learning experiance
I enjoy my job it was fullfilling helping those that were unable to transport there selfs to there treatments visits and Doctor visits. My co-works were very helpful in teaching me the things that I was new at doing. The hardest part of my job was getting close to the patients and you here that they have die.

Great job to earn medical experience
As an EMT at AMR, I was able to achieve 1000 hours of paid clinical experience. I was also given opportunities to train and teach. The staff is very personable and managers and supervisors were great.

Questions And Answers about American Medical Response

If you were in charge, what would you do to make Global Medical Response a better place to work?
Asked Dec 3, 2016
Be fair. Pay wages for employees to live a decent life. Treat all employees with pure respect and not have groups that are management favorites. Be open and approachable to field crews. Lead by example. Don’t demand crews to work harder than what they are as one sits in an office. Attempt to understand crews concerns, ideas, and suggestions. Have to always remember the field crews know more first hand how business is doing. Can not rely on computer generated numbers all the time. Be more community oriented. Get involved in community activities for free and not charge all the time. Invest in local small businesses for services needed for the division rather than running to major business chains. Promote by explorers work and not by who can answer questions better. Offer promotions to those who bust their butts off and prove they want to move up. Make steps to show crews we in management care. It’s the little things.
Answered Aug 16, 2020
1.) Better wages - the only locations that seem to earn decently are unionized, & the subject of unionizing comes up often. 2.) Stop letting dispatch run your crews into the dirt. We work hard, have a lot on our plates, and are expected to run non-stop, RARELY getting off on time. 12's turn into 14's entirely too often. 3.) Require dispatch to be CPR certified & work 3 consecutive 12 hour shifts on a truck to experience it from our end before letting them loose on the CAD. If # 1 & 2 are impossible, at least lower your expectations. No one is going to give you 5 Star effort for 2 Star pay.
