Great company built on falty structure
ABC Supply is a great company to work for in terms of job security for drivers and a company to be proud of with their footprint in the country. The problem is, each branch is ran as it's own entity with few branches willing to work together or help each other. This gives each branch manager a sense of invincibility they don't have to answer to anyone and can treat people poorly. The company does profit sharing but that creates another problem. You can have a branch manager who will micromanage everything as they receive the biggest bonuses. They sell a family setting but that's furthest from the truth. When the founder of the company passed away, it is no longer ran in his image. His wife sets back and collects a check while CEO types delegate force but they do a good job of making the propaganda look good. They do keep nice equipment and will repair anything if it breaks immediately. You're not told when your hired but overtime usually is mandatory and pressure will be applied if you don't comply with most branches running on Saturdays as well. They also usually lay many people off from branches in areas with winter weather as that's a slow time for their business. Managers will initially ask for volunteers but will choose if they don't get any. ABC is the leader in their industry and that's also given them a big head and they enjoy showing it. However, being the leader, you can go on any forum, they are the lowest paying company of their type. That's across the board f

The management sucks.
This is the worst job I ever had. They treat you like trash but say they are the best place to work for in america, but the survey they make you take for it, they make you answer good or they will fire you if you say you are unhappy. Then they will make you boom over power lines to get roofing on the rooftop even tho osha says you can't get within 15 feet, and if you say that they will say to you "do it or we will get someone who will do it" Or if the roof is rotten they will say "just be safe" They have no consern for your safety at all, they just want the stuff put on the roof no matter how you have to do it, and if you call them and say it is unsafe to do that because there is power lines they say that you are just trying to get out of having to do your job and that you are lying, and that you better get the stuff up on the roof or you can come back and go home for good. My dispatch told me that I should lie to home owners and say that my truck is not that heavy and would not break the driveway even tho the truck weighed 40,400 pounds with no load on it. you would pull on and it would break the driveway and the home owner would get mad at you. If you got to a new construction job site and it was raining and lightning they would say you need to just get it done because you have more jobs to do later, so you would have to get on a 2 story house in the rain with mud all over your shoes and run a drywall boom in the rain with lightning and carry 80 pound bundles of shingles ar

Overtime and benefits don't cut it
I worked at ABC a total of two weeks before I had enough. This was one of the most physically and mentally draining jobs I've ever had. I was hired on as a floater (both roof loading and warehouse), but spent all but one day roof loading. You're responsible for loading the peaks of the roof with bundles of shingles, which can weigh up to 70 pounds. You'll be on the roof in all conditions, no matter how hot it is, or how soaked the roof is when it rains. The problem is, you do it by yourself. The drivers ( in my personal opinion) don't get paid enough, so they usually wouldn't get on the roof to help you unload. They won't hire multiple roof loaders because it drives up the cost of payroll, so you're on your own. Most trucks will do 3-4 loads each, with an average load being 4 pallets of shingles. If you manage to finish all of the loads before 4 PM, they'll send you back out for another run. This job was just overly excessive for something that seemed so simple. Management wasn't totally useless, but rather very unhelpful. The turn over rate was crazy, and in my short time there, 4 guys quit and they had been there less than 6 months (we had maybe 20 people total on staff). The job asks far too much for what they pay. The benefits package is decent compared to most jobs, but that and the overtime doesn't make that job worth it. Physically, it will beat you down to the point where you just go home and sleep everyday after work. My co-workers were alright, none of them ever rea

Awful Stay Away
Work in a dead run for 10,11, 12 hours a day with LOTS of heavy lifting. Yes a bundle of shingles weighs 70 pounds but you will never lift just 1 bundle. On my last day I hand delivered 20 bundles. Easy math in a span of 10 minutes I picked up and sit down 1400 pounds. Delivering 200 pound windows on a daily basis is common place. Don't know how much for sure but my guess is a box of siding weighs between 75 and 95 pounds. My day would consist of hand delivering anywhere from 10 to 50 boxes a day. EVERYDAY! 400 pound gutter coil rolls. No you didn't have to pick those up but you did have to figure out a way to get them on their side so you could roll them out of the truck by yourself. I have never been belittled, micromanaged and browbeaten at any work place like I was at ABC Supply 611. So many unwritten rules and God forbid if you forget one of those rules you will be told "You'll do what I tell you to or I'll figure out a way to get rid of you. I've done it before. Yes that shows the most experienced person after I left in the warehouse has 5 months under his belt. I had a grand total of 7 months. The powers that be with ABC Supply need to take a hard look at this branch 611 and try to figure out why they can't keep truck drivers and branch managers or sit down with me. This review don't scratch the surface as to the goings on at Rural Hall.

Delivery / Warehouse Worker | Spokane Valley, WA | Jan 19, 2019
Pays good but very strenuous work
I worked here as a delivery driver delivering houseing materials to customers. Sometimes you get long drives to pasco or north above sandpoint but not every day. Usually you operate a forklift pig off the back of the truck which is fun. But sometimes you get jobs where you have to climb up on a roof in 103 degree weather liftimg and stacking roofing which sucks. Management does not take care of the vehicles so only one tryck has air conditioning which sucks on hot summer days. Some days you dont have any deliveries and just stay at the warehouse doing will call orders which i find boring. Most the people i worked with were a bunch of tools so i didn't like not having deliveries. Sometimes the folks in the office would order lunch for everyone which was great. Lunch is usually a half hour and the lunch room is pretty terrible. Also if a customer comes in with a will call during your lunch you have to drop what your doing to help which sucks. But there is a zips drive in down the street which is nice when you get tired of bringing your own food. Other than that, not a terrible place to work if you have a CDL license.
ProsFree lunch(sometimes) good pay if you have CDL
ConsAnnoying coworkers, broken AF Trucks.

miserable workplace where employees are taken for granted and not compensated for their abilities
Usually the day started with the morning rush of will call customers for about the first 3 hours. Orders for the conveyor trucks' afternoon deliveries were handed out. Sometimes a co-worker and myself would prepare deliveries of window packages to new construction subdivisions in the morning to be taken out in the early noon. Other days, I was a hot shot specialist with a delivery schedule of 5-10 short orders to be delivered. Management is inefficient and at times bewildered and confused. They do not respond well to input from subordinates and overall, create a workplace where one constantly has to be looking over their shoulder. The hardest part of the job was having to trick myself to get up to go to work everyday when this "management team" took over. Employees are greatly undervalued and grossly underappreciated. Most enjoyable part of my job was being a part of a team that made a difference! It was nice to be counted to pull someone out of a jam or fix a problem for an important customer

Customer service duties
Typical day at work consists of answering calls from the ABC branches as well as outside customers; answering any questions either branch or customer may have. In-putting daily orders and research into vendor products for both customer and branches; all while learning more about the products that ABC supply carries or distributes. Working with coworkers is a plus because of collaborating teamwork and the feeling of gratification when it all comes together to help either the customer or the branch. The hardest part of my position is when I come across something I am very unfamiliar with. In doing so it will add extra research on top of what I already have; on a lighter note of that its makes me challenge myself which is a definite plus. What I enjoy most about my job is "meeting" people through the phone discussions that take place. The rush I get when I am able to solve any issues or help out either the customer or the branch with whatever is needed.
Proscoworkers, small functions, meeting new people
Consjob stability seems scarce, no room to move within the company

Long hours, but easy work if you’re not afraid of steep roofs and heights
My job as a roof topper is pretty easy, and anyone can do it. It’s mindless work. I’m working my way up to a driver position, and my branch fully supports me on making that next step. You get what you put into this company. It’s very apparent when someone doesn’t want to be there; everyone can see it, and it reflects in their job performance. As long as you’re a team player, you will be taken care of. It can be stressful and slammed and you might work 10-12 hours a day, but the overtime is worth it when you get paid. This goes more for being a roof topper, but it also works in every other position as well: don’t work against yourself. Customers will ask you to do some stuff on a roof that’s too above and beyond, and you can’t burn yourself out on that. Learn to stand up for yourself, know that the customer isn’t always right, and you go where the boom goes.
ProsGood workplace moral, snacks and lunches, good equipment, safety conscious
ConsSeverely underpaying depending on manager, long hours, burning out quick can happen

Open atmosphere where you can be yourself, learn and grow.
As with all organizations, management and leadership drive the employee experience. The top management encourages an inclusive culture and the company strives to earn the employees respect and satisfaction. Their efforts to earn the J D Powers best work place recognition is evident. Compensation is fair, a base salary with perhaps an overly generous supplimental commission structure is attractive. However retaining the level of the supplimental commission in in 6 months is quite a challenge. There are many learning tools available for one to utilize. Branch level management varies widely, and this is what influences the employee experience. Again, as with all workplaces, personalities and focus of management varies. For the most part, my experience was very positive. I hated to leave, but had family & location issues. I am seeking to be re-hired in a new location.
Prosautonomy, freelunches from time to time, i was made to feel welcome.
Conswether it is good or bad, you are mostly on your own.

Micro managed boss's looking over you at all times you have to report in for everything you do and anything you do and you're penalized if it's not 10
When I work there we were more as janitors and lot boys Vice driving and delivering and doing Supply like we're supposed to. Then we had to sweep and do menial busy work when there was no loads and you were constantly watched and abused by management. They're very insecure about their help and they trust no one. No managerial skills are people skills whatsoever the training was okay but they did not practice what they preach. At Ocala Branch they do not use seat belts on forklifts the manager drives the truck with the shingle boom in the air at an angle nothing safe for secured. They constantly break safety rules and will fire you if you break them but when you're with them they expect you to break them.
ProsIt's a job but you will work harder than ever for very little wages or appreciation.
ConsManagers are worthless, and they think they're above you.

Questions And Answers about ABC Supply Co. Inc

What advice would you give the CEO of ABC Supply Co. Inc about how to improve it?
Asked Oct 17, 2016
Maybe it was just the branch I worked at but I was the DSM at the branch and my manager never showed up for work. I took on his responsibilities plus mine. People would show up for interviews and he wouldn't even be at the branch. He would just have me ask them a couple questions and send them out. If other employees called and asked him questions his answer would be "ask your DSM". When I found out that a couple of the other employees made considerably more money per hour than I did I asked for a a raise and it was the beginning of the end. I started doing deliveries because there was more money and less stress in it. I was delivering a set of windows to a customer which the manager had miss order windows for him several times and this was no different. The customer started cussing me and I stopped him and in the most respectful way I told him I didn't know anything about ordering windows my job was to deliver them not order them you'll have to call the manager to work out it out with him. I was suspended for three days for saying that. Eventually fired for lies that the manager made up about me. I put in 9 years for that company and was fired by a first time manager that thinks best thing to ever happen to the company. This was Hot Springs Arkansas by the way.
